JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of Dr. Nancy Redeker and the study program manager, the successful candidate will be a Research Assistant for the study of Phenotypes of Sleep Health in Black and Hispanic Women of Childbearing age and the MoMs Managing Sleep Study. Both studies will be conducted in Connecticut communities and engage women of childbearing age from racially and ethnically diverse communities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Research Assistant's (RA) primary research activities will include identifying and recruiting women for the studies, meeting with them in community settings, explaining the study, and obtaining consent. The RA will successfully complete training and adhere to principles regarding the ethical conduct of research and privacy. The RA will also be responsible for programming and initiating the use of sleep equipment for women to take home and use in their homes and the study team will train the RA to do this. The RA will also assist women to complete research documents electronically (via smartphone, tablet, computer, etc.) and be responsible for reminding them to complete the data. The RA will also support the study team to recruit women and assist with qualitative interviewing and telephone contacts. Travel to Connecticut sites for recruitment and data collection sites is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Access to a personal vehicle and a driver's license to enable travel to community sites for study activities.
3. Strong work ethic, ability to be punctual, and willingness to work outside normal working hours occasionally when the study requires.
4. Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task.
5. Ability to accurately maintain detailed digital and written records.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Comfort with working with women from diverse backgrounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Candidates will have a background working with multicultural CT women and strong community connections.
2. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully on teams and work independently.
APPOINTMENT TERMS This is a full-time, grant-funded, 12-month position. This position is subject to annual renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and budget funding. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the American Association of University Professors UConn Chapter (AAUP).
