The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager in Design Services within the Facilities Services, Planning and Construction Department. This position is responsible for managing multiple Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) construction, repair, and renovation projects of moderate or high design and construction complexity, volume, budget, and timelines.
The Project Coordinator, Project Manager, and Senior Project Manager are responsible for assigned projects completed in accordance with applicable building codes, industry, and University construction standards. The positions vary in area of expertise, size, cost, and complexity of projects assigned. The positions report to the Director of Planning and Construction.
Project Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage multiple projects involving departments, architecture/engineering firms, contractors, vendors and state agencies;
Meet with customers or departments to develop, finalize and manage planning, budgeting, scheduling, cost estimates, specifications and other information regarding architectural/engineering design, bidding, and construction management and ensure scope complies with campus standards;
Manage vendor, consultant and contractor procurement processes;
Manage contracts and contract negotiations;
Manage out-sourced architectural and engineering consultants;
Conduct project meetings;
Visit sites;
Review and approve change orders, requests for information, general construction correspondence and invoice payment;
Conduct final inspection and close-out projects;
Interpret and enforce building codes and ordinances; and
Other duties as assigned.
Senior Project Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Project Manager responsibilities outlined above;
Serve as the subject matter resource for the organization;
Serve as the "face" of Facilities Services with outside agencies;
Interface with building officials;
Participate in department strategic planning;
Conduct design review;
Plan and track capital improvement programs;
Provide detailed architectural/engineering design and analysis;
Create complex architectural/engineering plans; and
Other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Director of Design Services.
Required Qualifications
Project Manager
Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of related professional experience; OR
Master's degree and two (2) years of related professional experience
Related Experience: Progressively responsible experience as a project manager for increasingly complex projects typically requiring coordination of multiple trades and engineering specialties, mid-range timelines, and increased finances.
Required Qualifications
Senior Project Manager
Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years of related professional experience; OR
Master's degree and three (3) years of related work experience
Related Experience: Progressively responsible experience as a project manager for complex design/construction projects requiring coordination of all trades and engineering specialties, lengthy timelines, high finances, and high risk. Additionally, some experience in a project leadership role such as a project lead, supervisor, or in a similar project charge capacity is required.
Certification and Licensure:
A valid Class "C" driver's license or higher operator's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
One of the following licenses/certifications is required at the time of appointment:
Nevada State Board of Architecture, Interior Design, and Residential Design License;
Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors License;
Project Management Professional Certification; or
Certified Construction Manager Certification.
Note: Professional licensure issued by a jurisdiction other than the state of Nevada is acceptable at the time of appointment, but Nevada licensure must be obtained within six months of appointment. Physical Demands
This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This position requires the incumbent to climb ladders and enter into attics, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, trenches, and other such confined spaces.
Schedule and Travel Requirements
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position is subject to occasional travel.
Occasional evenings and weekends required in support of the operational schedule.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
