What we are looking for SCS Engineers (SCS) is seeking an independent, forward-thinking field engineer to assist with the workload of diverse, challenging solid waste and environmental projects in southwest Virginia. This position is based out of the Bristol, VA metro area, includes the Tri-Cities (Kingsport and Johnson City, TN). Initially the qualified individual will be expected to provide support to our existing solid waste practice consisting of landfill and landfill gas design, construction, operation, and monitoring, for private and municipal clients.
This position will be responsible for analyzing, optimizing, and improving active landfill gas collection and control systems (LFGCCS). The successful candidate will be able to review data collected by our Operations, Monitoring, and Maintenance (OMM) Division and use that data to evaluate the effectiveness of the LFGCCS. Based on these findings the field engineer will make recommendations to the Client and the project team about changes to improve system operations and work with the Client and OMM to implement the changes.
Other duties may include providing support to our existing solid waste practice consisting of landfill and landfill gas design, construction, operation, and monitoring, for private and municipal clients. As new work develops, the individual will be required to manage and maintain contact with clients, and manage the schedule and work product, consistent within SCS's quality control standards.
How you can make an impact Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering and scientific principles to real world operations.Makes decisions independently on engineering or scientific problems and methods, plans and coordinate work, and represent SCS at meetings and conferences.Field work in varied terrain and weather will be required, including surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, etc.Managing compliance with various environmental regulations for maintaining compliance and guidelines within a facility's Solid Waste and Air Permits.Utilize SCS eTools and RMC cloud-based data programs for downloading, uploading data, performing data and graphical analysis, mapping.Office-based tasks including CAD drafting, mathematical calculations, report writing, modeling, creating site plans and facility diagrams, permit applications, etc.A mixture of office and field work expected.Multi-media sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air) and reportingCompliance monitoring, permitting, document preparation, statistical analysis, and proposals.Preparation of Engineering Plans and SpecificationsOversight of construction activitiesLong field days and work at job sites throughout Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina can be expected with this position.Occasional overnight travel will be required.Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field required.2 - 5 years of experience in Field Engineering, Solid Waste, or Industrial Operations required.Consulting experience, business specific to the solid waste industry, including landfill gas management, air compliance, and landfill design and permitting, etc. preferred.Familiar with field analysis and operations.Mechanically inclined for using a variety of environmental monitoring and GIS instrumentation, and ability to learn new instrumentation.Ability to operate some heavy equipment such as a skid steer loader or mini excavator is recommended, but not required.Experience with using AutoCAD design software preferred and MS Office software knowledge required.Field equipment and field sampling experience required.Valid driver's license with driving record in good standing required.Pay for this role is between $70k-$80k depending on your experience.
