STAFF PATHOLOGIST The Hershel Woody Williams Veterans Affairs medical center, located in Huntington, W.Va., is seeking a full-time board-certified (AP/CP) staff Pathologist to join our expanding Joint Commission accredited Pathology laboratory.
The Hershel Woody Williams Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a fully accredited 80-bed acute medical and surgical care facility provides primary care and specialty health services, including radiology, GI, PM & R, neurology, mental health services, womens health care, prosthetics, bariatric surgery, pain management, palliative care, pathology, sleep medicine and more.

Qualifications: MD or DO degree Board Certified in AP/CP Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Duties Duties include but not limited to:
Performing gross and microscopic examination of surgical and cytological cases and providing reports in a timely manner Performing intraoperative frozen section and gross interpretations as needed. Performing post-mortem examinations and ensuring that the provisional and final reports are completed in a timely fashion. Interpreting clinical laboratory data and communicating conclusions effectively with providers Providing clinical pathology consultations to providers when appropriate. Taking call on a rotating schedule. Oversight and instruction of medical students. Representing the laboratory at functions or committees such as multidisciplinary tumor boards, transfusion utilization review, and others. Participating in the review of quality-control data, results from proficiency testing, and other internal service data to meet regulatory requirements. Participating in quality improvement within the service and proactively supporting cost-effective use of resources in laboratory operations Excellent communication skills Compensation & Benefits: Compensation: Competitive salary is based on the physicians experience + annual performance bonus + regular salary increases Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): A $10,000 sign bonus is authorized for highly qualified applicants. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Upon approval, physician would be eligible for reimbursement of up to $40,000 per year. Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Preferred Experience: Diagnostic Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology Experience in a clinical lab discipline such as blood bank, microbiology or chemistry and/or willingness to provide oversight for one of the sections.
