Position Summary
The Youth Pastor/Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for a Christ-centered ministry that helps students know and follow Jesus in all areas of life. He is expected to love the Lord and love relating to students in 7-12th grades. This person will direct all aspects of the Youth Ministry including developing and executing ministry strategies; building relationships with students and their families; planning, leading, and executing ministry events and activities; teaching and leading group discussions; planning and executing a budget; recruiting and equipping volunteers; coordinating with staff, volunteers, and parents; and performing all related administrative functions. Youth ministry activities include, but are not limited to, weekly youth group meetings, weekly small group meetings, retreats, conferences, service projects, mission trips, and summer events. Responsibilities and Expectations
Building Relationships with Students and Their Families
• Faithfully pursue students by investing time individually in their lives (e.g. by going to their schools,
extra-curricular events, one-to-one meetings, etc.).
• Humbly engage students with the truth of the Gospel through grace and love.
• Pray regularly for students.
• Develop and pursue individual goals for the students to promote their growth in grace, evangelism,
missions, service, fellowship, and biblical world and life view.
• Promote loving, welcoming, challenging, and fun community.
• Develop relationships with the parents of the students and provide parents resources for the
discipleship of their children.
• Recruit, equip, and encourage adult volunteers to love and mentor students.
Teaching
• Serve as the primary teacher for Youth Group and regularly teach youth in Sunday School.
• Develop a long-range teaching plan for Sunday School and Youth Group as well as a year-round
activity calendar. Continuously refine its scope and sequence so that it remains aligned with the goals of the youth ministry.
• Lead a high school or middle school boys small group and equip volunteers to lead remaining high
school and middle school, boys and girls small groups.
• Provide informal teaching/coaching/counseling (mentoring) through one-to-one interaction with
the students. Be available to meet with, listen to, pray over, read Scripture with, provide wise counsel, or direct to a biblical counselor when necessary.
Administration
• Plan and oversee large group gatherings, small group meetings, Sunday School classes, social
events, service projects, retreats, conferences, and mission trips.
• Maintain up-to-date student information.
• Maintain the currency and relevancy of the youth ministry section of the NCPC website.
• Communicate regularly with parents, students, and volunteers through email, text, social media, etc.
• Prepare and implement the annual budget for youth ministry.
Miscellaneous
• Collaborate with the Children's Ministry Coordinator, especially on 5th and 6th grade gatherings.
• Coordinate with other NCPC ministries to develop and promote opportunities for integration within the church body.
• Perform other ministry duties assigned by the NCPC leadership based on the needs of the church
and the person's unique gifts and experience.
• Meet regularly with the senior pastor for encouragement and equipping.
• Attend Youth Leader Training (YLT) run by Reformed Youth Ministries (RYM).
• Assist in leading worship when requested
• Preach (if ordained or on an ordination path – 2-4 times per year)
Personal and professional qualifications and expectations
• Must have a love for Jesus, the local church, and teenagers.
• Should possess a desire to grow, learn, and develop as a child of God and a shepherd of His people.
• Should have the ability to teach God's Word and apply it to the daily reality of teenagers' lives clearly and winsomely.
• Must be willing to align Youth Ministry (teaching and activities) with NCPC's mission, values,
philosophy of ministry, and our doctrinal commitments as outlined in the Westminster Confession of Faith.
• Should be a team player as well as a self-starter who can follow through on tasks.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours congruent with the schedules of students.
• A degree from a reformed theological seminary or progress toward such a degree is preferred, but
commensurate experience and other educational backgrounds may be considered.
• Some experience working with high school and middle school age youth is preferred. Other relevant experience will be considered.
• Must become a member of NCPC or Palmetto Presbytery (if ordained).
