8:00 AM : 5:00 PM, Monday : Friday

This is a temporary position at the Sedgwick County Health Department that supports COVID:19 response. This position supports a nurse at COVID:19 sampling site locations and coordinates logistics of the mobile sampling team that collects patient specimens for COVID:19 testing. The Medical Specialist assists with scheduling sampling appointments, ordering supplies, packaging and shipping specimens, and specimen delivery and pick:up. The position is primary support for transportation coordination and site arrangements for the mobile testing team. The Medical Specialist performs data entry of patient information into client management and laboratory requisition systems. The Medical Specialist responds to questions from clients, ensures patient confidentiality, follows HIPAA policies, maintains professional expertise, and works under the direction of written protocols.

Assist with the collection and packaging of samples from patients for COVID:19 testing at mobile sampling site locations and other Health Department locations

:Verify patient information
:Package samples following appropriate procedures including sealed in the specimen bag and packaged for cold chain shipping
:Ensure samples are shipped correctly and in a timely manner

Coordinate the logistics of the mobile sampling team

:Assist with scheduling of specimen delivery and pick:up
:Order supplies
:Coordinate transportation and site arrangements
:Perform accurate data entry of patient information into client management and laboratory requisition systems
:Accurately document activities on standard forms
Schedule off:site sampling appointments

:Take calls from clients and businesses using good customer service and listening skills
:Provide COVID:19 disease and testing information
:Schedule COVID sampling appointments in appropriate system
:Accurately and timely document calls in call log

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and certification as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Paramedic or other professional licensure or training from an accredited program which provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an accredited program that provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the positon. Current certification or licensure or Associate's degree and completion of an accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. One year of work experience in a medical field performing patient assessments and sample collection. One year of work experience in a public health department or healthcare setting. One year of experience with sample collection and shipping. One year experience in medical scheduling. Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese.
