The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking an IT Security Engineer to join the IT team in our New York office. You will be a part of a small but growing team of 20, currently based in NY, DC, SF, LA, CH, MT and Vancouver. Although we are geographically distributed, we enjoy close working relationships and collaborate continuously on a wide range of projects and activities that support and advance our business strategy.

The IT team is a diverse and vibrant group dedicated to ensuring NRDC’s systems are reliable, our applications support the business, and our users are proficient. The IT team seeks to ensure continuous employee development through on-the-job and formal training.

This position is responsible for planning and carrying out NRDC information security strategy. This person will help to refine security standards and best practices. He / she is responsible for the security of the IT infrastructure employed at NRDC no matter whether it resides on-prem or in the cloud. This includes designing, building, maintaining and defending scalable, secure and robust systems as well as educating the staff.
Responsibilities

Develop, update and maintain information security plans and policies
Develop strategies and procedures to respond to and recover from incidents
Awareness training of the staff on info sec standards, policies and best practices
Responsible for, including hands on, in regards to all firewalls, data encryption and all other security products, services and procedures
Ultimate point of escalation for all security related events
Monitor networks and systems
Manage the governance of cloud data platform security
Work to coalesce data / metrics from disparate platforms into a single pane of glass
Investigate anomalous cybersecurity events, behaviors and incidents
Conduct periodic internal and external pentests
Maintain awareness and evaluate forward-looking technologies
Create training and materials for staff
Configure, deploy and test acquired security solutions along with documenting configuration and creating infrastructure diagrams
Maintain NRDC IT’s policies and standards
Ability to work on multiple project timelines, deliverables and information requests for all functions within the IT Department
Communicate effectively and professionally with inter and intra-departmental personnel of varying levels in the organization using diagrams, charts, and models

Qualifications

10+ years of experience and expertise in firewalls, intrusion detection, content filtering, AV
5+ years of experience in designing and managing secure networks, systems and application architectures
5+ years of experience with risk assessment tools, technologies and methods
Planning, researching and developing security policies, standards and procedures
System administration, supporting on-prem and cloud platforms
Endpoint security solutions
White hat skills a plus
Strong ability and proven track record of troubleshooting complex issues and provide solutions quickly
Ability to learn quickly, work with the systems team and independently when necessary
Ability to create systematic solutions and execute business and technical requirements
Strong leadership skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate issues, direction, requirements and priorities
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT, CISSIP. OSCP a plus.
