Job Description:
Social-Emotional, utilize Conscious Discipline strategies to:
Provide Tier 2 social-emotional support to children in preschool - 6th grade by guiding small groups, working with students one on one, and mediating conflicts between students.
Support teachers with de-escalation strategies and strategies for developing a positive classroom culture.
De-escalating children with severe behaviors and supervising consequences when classroom teachers are unable to.
Implement school-wide culture activities: Assemblies, Student Council, staff community building, etc.
Academic
Collect and analyze school-wide reading data
Plan and give small group interventions in English and Spanish reading to students in K-6. Interventions will be targeted at developing bilingual literacy skills.
Coordinate classroom-based interventions for 1-3 grade including school-wide interventions block.
Serve as the school SAL for WIDA and ACCESS assessment.
General
Invest in families by creating and maintaining positive relationships with parents
Supervise students and ensure their safety
Submit reports and other administrative tasks on time
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Commitment to Dual Language education and Montessori philosophy
Native or native-like fluency in Spanish AND English, ability to provide instruction, communicate with parents and participate in staff meetings in both languages is required.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and “Highly Qualified” as defined by NCLB
Experience with and passion for: working with Second Language Learners, instructing literacy, oral language development, and teaching using thematic units
Experience working in public schools State Standards and standardized assessments including PARCC
Commitment to building long term relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
Desire to learn and grow as a teacher; open-ness to feedback, collaboration, and compromise
Experience working with at-risk students
Certifications in Conscious Discipline and Orton Gillingham or willing to attend 2 weeks of training during summer 2017
Preferred: 2+ years of experience teaching bi-literacy in a Dual Language program
Preferred: Montessori Certification
