WLSSD provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota that includes the cities of Duluth, Cloquet, Hermantown, Proctor, Rice Lake, Carlton, Scanlon, Thomson and Wrenshall, and eight surrounding townships. WLSSD is a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin. What is WLSSD hiring for? We are seeking an Instrument Technician with a proven ability to repair a variety of instrumentation and electrical processing equipment.
The perfect candidate for the Instrument Technician role should have a mechanical and electrical background. They should be comfortable calibrating, installing, modifying, maintaining and repairing a variety of electronic and pneumatic instruments. The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of PLC programing and know the National Electric Code (NEC). The candidate should be detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks, and be safety minded.
What are some things you will be doing in this job? Install and maintain electronic and pneumatic instruments (telemetering devices, transmitters, receivers, sensors, actuators, monitoring equipment, flow meters etc) Maintain and trouble shoot equipment associated with PLC's. Operate Diagnostic Equipment. Analyze process data and make recommendations for improvements. **For a full list of job duties, click on the job description below!**
What education and experience must you have? Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a technical trade school with a degree in Instrumentation or equivalent education and Possess four years' experience in maintenance and repair of electronic monitoring and processing equipment similar to that found in a wastewater or solid waste processing facility; or such combination of education and experience as may be accepted as equivalent Licenses and Certifications Registration with the State of Minnesota as an electrical worker or the ability to obtain within nine months. Certified Electronic Technician or Certified Instrument Technician preferred. Possess a valid driver's license. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (jargon for: What should an Instrument Technician know?) • Knowledge and ability to operate various types of electrical/electronic instruments, control and test equipment
• Knowledge of basic PLC programming diagrams and operation
• Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC)
• Ability to work independently or as a team
• Knowledge and ability to implement safe work practices and procedures including: Confined Space Entry, Lock out/Tag out and Energy Control Procedures
• Knowledge and ability to respond to emergency conditions and develop appropriate course of action
• Ability to read and comprehend plans, logic drawings, schematic diagrams, owner manuals and specifications
• Ability to solder and repair electronic equipment
