Job Summary: The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.
This position is a member of the Human Resources team within the Administrative Core and is responsible for providing day-to-day support to all Waisman Center Principal Investigators (PIs), employees and students. This position serves as a point of contact in a broad range of HR processes and policies all with the goal of fostering a welcoming environment. Responsibilities include recruiting, classification and compensation, onboarding, payroll and benefits, employee change transactions, processing employee leave of absence requests and other related duties.
The Waisman Center has 400+ paid personnel and 250+ unpaid individuals as well as affiliate faculty from 25 academic departments who have research programs located in the facility.
Responsibilities: Provides human resources (HR) information and support to a work unit regarding more than one HR functional area to ensure timely and accurate transaction processing. Maintains personnel records and assists with work unit operational policy development. 15% Provides consultation, performs analytics, and/or maintains personnel files, communications, and materials for work unit through various mediums 50% Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines 20% Receives, responds to, and resolves employee questions and problems 5% Represents unit/program at institutional workshops, informational meetings, and training sessions 10% Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of work unit Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Qualifications: Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience:
- One to two years of professional experience working in Human Resources, preferably within a university environment.
- Knowledge of University of Wisconsin policies and procedures as well as federal and state laws and statutes related to human resources.
- Proficiency or familiarity with or ability to learn HRIS system software (e.g., JEMS, TREMS, HRS, Cypress, WISER, Business Intelligence, etc.)
- Ability to exercise judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use customer service techniques to respond to inquiries thoroughly and accurately while maintaining professionalism, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with faculty and staff.
- Attention to detail, effective time management, organizational and independent decision-making skills are essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to courteous and responsive customer service, with the ability and desire to work as a member of a team.

Work Type: Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary: Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
