Role Purpose:
The Paramedic is responsible for performing procedures, administering medications, and assisting the physician with total patient care in an ambulatory setting within the scope of the paramedic?s practice. The Paramedic duties may include: taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, obtaining preliminary visit information, preparing patients for examination procedure, sterilization of medical instruments, administering medications and screening telephone calls related to patient care using set protocols and standing orders as resources and consulting with a RN or medical provider for situations outside of established protocols. The Paramedic may also act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit.
Dean Clinic offers a one time sign on bonus of $2500.00 to part time and full time Medical Assistant, LPN and Paramedic new hires.
1. Identifies self as a Paramedic in all professional encounters.
2. Accurately collects and records vital signs and other pertinent patient information.
3. Performs or assist with department procedures.
4. Demonstrates and understands sterile and aseptic techniques. Uses appropriate techniques in setting up or assisting with procedure.
5. Completes Laboratory and Medical Imaging requisitions, assists in the scheduling of procedures.
6. Transports patients to other departments and acts as courier for specimens, x-rays, and/or medical records.
7. Administers medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion. Demonstrates and understands administration techniques, recognizes and reports effects and side effects of medication, and instructs patient appropriately.
8. Screens telephone calls related to patient care.
a. Obtains appropriate information with attention to detail and accuracy.
b. Uses set protocols/standing orders as resources to implement appropriate care.
c. Consults with an RN or medical provider regarding situations outside of established protocols.
9. Documents appropriate information in patient?s medical record.
10. Respects and maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
11. Cleans, prepares, and autoclaves equipment and instruments in preparation for sterilization per infection control policies and procedures.
12. Reinforces the teaching protocols established by the RN or medical provider and provides basic health care instruction.
13. Conforms to all infection control policies and procedures.
14. Performs delegated medical acts beyond basic nursing care under the direct supervision of the medical provider.
15. Attends in-services and continuing education programs. Attends and participates in department staff meetings.
16. Demonstrates knowledge of role in emergency situations.
17. Performs other duties as required.Required:
1. State licensure as a Paramedic.
2. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

5. Ability to perform fine motor tasks, such as when working with instruments, taking blood pressures, performing other patient care tasks, writing, computer or phone tasks.
6. Ability to safely perform patient handling tasks, such as ambulation, patient transfers, pushing wheelchairs or assisting with patient transfers.
7. Ability to safely lift up to 20 pounds and to push/pull up to 100 pounds when moving boxes, equipment or objects.
8. Ability to bend/twist and crouch when performing various job tasks.
9. Ability to work with and to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working with bloodborne pathogens or other chemicals.
10. Ability to wear a respirator/mask.
