The Category Marketing Director will be an integral role to a small, but mighty team working to craft the vision for the brand as well launch communication across platforms. You will develop and execute category marketing plans and programs as well as champion the strategic role of the brand by driving product strategy and executing category marketing programs to grow brand awareness, market share, volume, and profitability. The ideal candidate thinks outside of the box and find ways around obstacles. The Category Marketing Director leads strategic direction on all cross-functional activities regarding the brand including marketing, insights, content, digital, social and finance, which requires a holistic approach to driving business growth. You will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer to help architect the future vision of the product and marketing strategy.
Lead and direct marketing plans for a key category. Responsible for the development and management of strategies and programs to achieve commercialization, profit margin, and business plan objectives.
Continuously develop new product ideas, lead research and evaluation of new ideas to determine their consumer, trade, financial & operational viability.
Be the voice of the consumer to ensure that the company understands their needs and motivations and ensure we consistently delight them.
Leverage consumer insights, identify needed research and segment target consumer and customer needs
Partner with R&D to drive product definition, key benefits, RTBs and competitive claims
Create plans to generate awareness, consumer trial, repeat, and loyalty. Focus on delivering a differentiated customer experience that wins vs. competition.
Ensure timely & high-quality execution of plans in all areas outlined above & make appropriate plan changes to address business and competitive conditions.
Bring subject matter expertise into all thinking and planning. Stay current on brand, social and digital marketing best practices.
Lead development and qualification of product line-up for initial launch and select initiatives for brand innovation pipeline from concept to go-to-market strategy proposal.
Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to achieve objectives including vendors or agencies.
An undergraduate university degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field is required; MBA or its equivalent is preferred.
7-10 years of progressively responsible product management experience in either large or medium consumer packaged goods brand marketing organization. Experience in a start-up is a plus.
Food/beverage experience is required; product launch experience is a plus.
Successful execution of effective go-to-market strategies, product portfolio development and management, new product launches, and market expansion initiatives.
Experience in launching innovations from concept to creative assets. Strong concept writing skills.
Proven track record leading breakthrough communication campaigns. Strong aptitude and savviness in the digital and traditional media landscape.
Experience in packaging and label design development.
Minimum of 5 years of people management experience, including outside partners/agencies.
