The Assistant Controller is a hands:on role that will oversee the general accounting activities of the department.

This individual plays a leadership role in the completion of account reconciliations, period end closing processes, and financial statement preparation. The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller and is responsible for the direct supervision, coaching, and mentoring of the Staff Accountants.
Hands:on management of all aspects of the daily general ledger accounting activities for the Agency. Ensure the timely completion of work to allow for the ability to meet all internal and external reporting and compliance deadlines. Maintain accountability for the accurate and timely completion of account reconciliations, period end closing, and financial statement preparation. Directly supervises Staff Accountants, including training employees, assigning and directing work, and providing any necessary coaching and/or performance feedback. Maintain and where necessary, make improvements to procedures, systems, and internal controls necessary to maintain proper accounting records. Serve as a key liaison to the external auditors to ensure timely completion of the audit. Partner with the Controller and CFO to contribute to and foster an environment of continuous improvement, seeking out opportunities to increase the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of the work performed. Manage the accounting reconciliations, reporting, and invoicing for all grants and federal awards.
A Bachelors Degree in Business is required, preferred major in Accounting. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant is also preferred. 10 years of directly related experience with at least 5 of those years in management. Candidates must possess strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, and embrace software applications to drive continuous improvement. Experience utilizing MS Dynamics/GP is a plus. Ability to work in a fast paced environment; demonstrate a sense of urgency and multi:task to consistently meet various deadlines. Works with a self:starter initiative and exhibits independent judgment. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills to work cross:functionally. Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.
