Job Overview
The Assistant Director of School Nutrition Services is responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all phases of the School Division's food service operation; ensuring that meals served meet the students' nutritional needs at the lowest possible cost while maintaining a financially sound operation. Roles and Responsibilities
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
Assists director in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies and regulations relating to School Food and Nutrition Services, Supervises Administrative and Nutrition & Procurement Coordinator and evaluates annual performance. Provides oversight of all required tasks of Administrative and Nutrition & Procurement Coordinator. Maintains an efficient and well-informed community by working with the Communications Team to ensure all SNS customers are informed of relevant program information; coordinates the dissemination of information and nutritional resource materials; designs nutrition education efforts to enhance learning and health as defined by USDA Child Nutrition Programs and the District's Wellness Policy. Collaborates with the Operations Supervisor in the annual update of the Manager Manual, Employee Handbook, HACCP Manual, Food Safety Manual, departmental disaster and emergency preparedness plan; ensures all updates are communicated effectively and in a timely manner. Leads SNS Apprentice Program Schedules interviews and hires school-based staff keeping the SNS team fully staffed. Assigns newly hired staff to training kitchens, monitors training, and assigns newly trained staff to schools. Collaborates with HRTD on weekly SNS - HRTD meeting agenda, recruitment and retention activities. Evaluates monthly staffing statistics (vacancy, turn-over, absenteeism) and shares with BFS leadership. Evaluates annual professional development requests of administration and school staff in conjunction with the director. Assists director with leadership development of administrative and school staff and assists director with agenda and execution of monthly department meetings. Develops and implements monthly Leadership Meetings. Keeps a record of annual professional development of all SNS staff. In conjunction with the SNS director, consults, as needed, with school planners and architects on plans and specifications for new or modernized school cafeteria facilities. Reviews and evaluates all requests and recommendations for purchase of new and replacement equipment. Monitors customer satisfaction with open and effective communication. Uses problem-solving techniques to tactfully address questions/concerns. Keeps stakeholders informed about emerging issues while ensuring quality customer service is achieved within the Department. Qualifications
Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable. Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in public health, nutrition, dietetics, food science, hospitality, or directly related field. Experience Five years of experience leading USDA-sponsored meal programs. Five years of supervisory experience required. Licenses and Certifications
ServSafe Certification , School Nutrition Association Level 3 certificate or School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) credential required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability to manage a professional staff. Demonstrated ability to build an effective team that sustains a high level of efficiency and effectiveness. Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems. Demonstrated ability to analyze key performance indicator results and take appropriate action.
