Full job description The San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition seeks an Accountant to oversee all aspects of financial management in accordance with Good Accounting Practices. They will be responsible for payment of invoices and payroll, receiving income, and preparing deposits. They will keep records of all transactions by program and by grant funding stream in QuickBooks Online. Monthly bank statements will be reconciled and financial reports prepared and provided for board meetings in a timely manner. The Accountant is also responsible for providing data for grant reports for funders.
About the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition The Accountant will join a dynamic team at a grassroots non-profit working to foster an equitable local food system in the San Luis Valley. This is accomplished through The Rio Grande Farm Park, a farm incubator and educational farm; the Valley Roots Food Hub, an aggregation and distribution service; Cooking Matters, a bilingual cooking and nutrition education program; and Local Foods Local Places, an economic development and strategic planning effort. Together we can make a significant contribution to agriculture, the economy, the environment, and our community in the San Luis Valley. For more information:
Responsibilities Accounts receivable: prepare and record donation checks and grant transfers Accounts payable: print checks, pay online bills, reconcile Bill.com spending card data Work with Executive Coordinator to prepare and track invoices to grant funders Work with Valley Roots Food Hub to oversee data entry of sales and invoicing, pay bills, conduct reconciliations, trial balances and financial reporting Run payroll every other week through Quickbooks Online, and make retirement contributions Reconcile six bank accounts, reconcile payroll, and conduct intercompany reconciliations Compile data for grant tracking and reports Make journal entries for intercompany transactions Ensure that all payroll taxes are being paid quarterly to the state and to the IRS Prepare monthly financial reports and support development of annual budget, and provide interpretation to board of directors Improve coding, classes, chart of accounts, and forms Review tax documents Compile records for audit Other bookkeeping duties as requested Qualifications At least two years of accounting experience, and/or equivalent education Familiar with inter-company transactions/payroll/journal entries Strong capacity with QuickBooks Online and Excel/Sheets Proficient with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs Knowledge of local foods movement preferred Team player able to effectively communicate and maintain a positive attitude with diverse colleagues and community members Hours: 32-40 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends
Compensation $28-32 per hour Hybrid-remote work and schedule flexibility Nine paid federal holidays per year. Up to 20 days of Paid Time Off per year Reimbursement for mileage and travel time (not including regular commute to LFC offices) A Roth Individual Retirement Account (IRA) through Colorado SecureSavings. A 20% discount on food and related products at the Valley Roots Food Hub Health and dental insurance, with 50% of premiums covered.
