SummaryThe West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is recruiting an Accountant who will be responsible for performing accounting functions, such as inputting, examining, analyzing, reconciling, and interpreting accounting records and financial information in order to prepare fiscal reports or statements for MSOPTI, Alumni Association, and Southeastern AHEC using QuickBooks and Sage accounting software along with providing administrative support to the Vice President for Finance and Facilities. Maintain compliance with WVSOM, State, and Federal policies and guidelines, including but not limited to GASB and FASB.
This is a full-time, non-classified position; it is exempt from FLSA regulations concerning overtime. Base salary of the position is $29,500 though commensurate with education and experience, plus a full state benefits package.
Weekly schedule is typically 8:00am ? 4:30pm, though the weekly schedule for this position will be established between the supervisor and the employee and approved given the needs of the department and the institution. This position has been designated as Essential. This means that when WVSOM is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover and continue operations at WVSOM.

Minimum Education
Required Licenses/CertificationSuccessful candidate will have an earned Bachelor?s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, though a combination of experience and education may be considered for this position.
Skills RequiredDemonstrated knowledge of Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and theories.

Demonstrated knowledge of automated double entry accounting systems and ability to provide information for analytical use.

Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook as well as Sage and/or Quickbooks.

Analytical ability to understand, interpret, and apply WVSOM affiliate organizations, State, and Federal policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Ability to quickly learn Sage, Quickbooks, and WVSOM Accounting system and understand the modules integration.

Ability to analyze, draw logical conclusions, organize information, perform financial calculations, and prepare financial reports.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, professionally, and maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information:

Strong oral and written communications to work with all internal and external contacts in a professional and positive manner.

Demonstrated knowledge of fund accounting.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate and prioritize many different tasks, set deadlines, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage the accounting systems and budgets, including cash receipts, payables, purchase orders, invoicing, receivables, manage/reconcile bank accounts, produce financial reports as directed, and assist in the annual financial audit and budget development processes for WVSOM affiliate organizations.

Develop and maintain complex, computerized financial spreadsheets, databases, and recordkeeping for various fund sources by utilizing QuickBooks, and Sage software and, MS Office.

Research discrepancies and initiates corrections within the accounting systems using established procedures.

Ensures all financial transactions are recorded and fiscal reports are produced in compliance with WVSOM, State, and Federal policies and procedures, including but not limited to FASB and GASB

Ensure financial transactions and reports are in compliance with grant agreements and contractual service agreements.

Maintain balances, reconcile, and develop financial reports for grants within affiliate organizations.

Coordinates and assists CPA firms in annual audit, and preparation of audited financials.

Provide financial reports using current and historical data for use in establishing fiscal year budgets.

Offer advice and recommendations for budget funding.

Maintain accounting software specification and account setup.

Prepare deposits for MSOPTI, SEAHEC, GCHA, & Alumni Association.

Create and/or maintain procedure manual.

Attend board meetings as necessary and/or report at board meetings as requested.

Produce 1099 forms for all affiliated organizations.

Create and enter year-end entries in preparation for CPA audit and create new accounting year.

Prepares and presents financials at the MSOPTI/AHEC Financial Review prior to the quarterly MSOPTI Governing Board Meeting.

Handle the Vice President?s requisitions.

Assist with the coordination of events, meetings, and conference for the department.

Conducts special studies and investigations by researching and preparing reports for the Vice President.

Assist with the Vice President?s appointment schedule.

Performs related duties as assigned or directed.
