Responsibilities for this Position Job description Job Description Position Description:
This UAW-represented position includes:
- Operate GMAW welding equipment.
- Follow prescribed welding procedures.
- Obtain required welding certifications to weld various metals in specific positions.
- Welding to include operation of slag tool, pre-heating, air arcing, grinding, plasma cutting equipment.
- Ability to fabricate large military vehicle assemblies (modify parts, verify acceptable weld joint configurations).
- Must operate JIB crane, radio-controlled overhead crane, pendant crane.
- Perform pre and/or post operation and safety checks of equipment.
Position Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (International Trafficking and Arms Regulations).
- Must successfully complete vetting process administered by Department of Army Police for unescorted facility access.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment process including but may not be limited to background check, medical exam, and drug screen.
- Must satisfy weld entrance exam.
- Must satisfy skills test (including vision, audio, respirator clearance, physical).
- Two (2) years welding experience is preferred.
- May be required to certify on various metals and alloys.
- May be required to obtain license to operate radio-controlled overhead crane.
- Understanding and previous experience with operator verification systems, preferred.
- Must learn and apply GDLS welding processes to acquire weld certifications for assigned product line(s).
- Work product must meet GDLS quality systems requirements.
Working Conditions and Environment
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and handling various parts (including weld wire) -- up to 60 lbs.
- Climbing ladders both into and onto structures.
- Bending, kneeling, standing, stooping, crawling.
- Potential for walking and standing on uneven surfaces.
- Working in and around dust, fumes, oils, mists, lubricants, solvents and in areas with a high noise volume.
- Depending upon departmental assignment wearing a respirator may be required.
- Using hand tools including, but not limited to sledge hammer , pry bar, large wrenches, air/gas couplings.
- Operating radio-controlled crane for lifting and moving material.
- Overtime and off-shift work may be required.
- Wearing of required PPE (personal protective equipment) is mandatory. PI********
