By joining our Contract Administration Branch in the Division of Construction as a Transportation Engineering Technologist I, you'll have the opportunity to, with the specific written approval of the State Highway Engineer, completes a variety of basic technical components while creating or referencing engineering documents, including plans, proposals, specifications, and addenda. A Transportation Engineering Technologist I performs tasks requiring the application of technical principles in the design, development, and/or review of engineering projects while training to perform more advanced technical functions; OR learns to plan, organize, assist, and inspect the proper installation and safety of routine maintenance Work Zones. (Engineering decisions recommended by positions of the class must be approved by a Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer.) Holders of the Transportation Engineering Technologist I position will complete tasks such as: Assist in the creation/processing/execution of subcontract requests from the prime contractor on KYTC projects. Assist in the processing of prime contractor progress and final pay estimates on KYTC projects. Track/record/input payments from the prime contractor to all Disdavantage Business Enterprise (DBE) companies during all phases of the construction process. Advise/communicate/aid Highway Districts and contractors regarding contract administration of KYTC projects. Perform other duties as required. Holders of this job title will obtain: Experience using computer software including AASHTOWare Project SiteManager, ProjectWise Explorer, Microsoft (MS) Office, MS Teams, etc. Broad technical knowledge of KYTC Project Delivery and Contract Administration as a result of daily interactions with all parties involved with KYTC projects. Broad technical knowledge on Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) rules, regulations, and requirements in regard to KYTC projects. Broad technical knowledge of the subcontracting process on KYTC projects. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: None Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: 1. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field OR 2. High school Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: 1. Must have three years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above; OR 2. Must have six years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the second education option above; OR 3. Must have four years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified Inspection Team Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the third education option above. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
