POSITION SUMMARY:
The contractor must be able to work independently and be well trained in multistep organic synthesis with the ability to synthesize, purify, identify, characterize and analyze compounds using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry. The contractor will keep accurate and complete records of all scientific experiments according to established procedures and ensure that these records and raw data are retained properly. They will draft technical reports, manuscripts and patent applications and will present work internally and to external consultants and collaborators as needed. The understanding of and previous experience or exposure to Structure-Activity Relationship studies and DMPK property optimization is desirable.
TASKS. The contractor shall:
Develop, produce, and scale up chemical probes with linkers for conjugation to fluorescent reporters and other reporter groups.
Devise synthetic routes to target molecules; produce desired compound libraries for projects assigned with acceptable purity and deliver quantities to support biological assays.
Perform chemical synthesis and optimize chemical probes for potency and solubility.
Work with other departments to ensure timely completion of research projects.
Participate within a team to publish and present relevant projects within the community of bioorganic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and pharmacology.
Perform both routine and specialized synthetic and analytical procedures, and operate complex laboratory equipment.
Analyze compounds using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS).
Conduct literature reviews.
Produce desired chemical libraries.
Draft technical reports, manuscripts, and patent applications, and present work internally or externally.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
Ph.D. in Chemistry or related areas. A Master's degree plus three additional years of experience may be substituted for a Ph.D.
A minimum of four (4) years of related experience in chemical synthesis and analysis.
Understanding of and previous experience in Structure-Activity Relationship studies and DMPK property optimization is highly desirable.
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and databases and data management tools.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
