The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Water Pollution Control within the Technical Services, Compliance, and Enforcement (TCE) Branch located in the Carson City office. Primary duties include inspecting facilities, conducting effluent sampling, reviewing plans and technical document submissions, and conducting compliance-related enforcement of permits with surface water & groundwater discharges, working in waters permits, and temporary discharge permits in conformance with the Federal Clean Water Act and state statutes and regulations (NRS and NAC 445A).
Full compliance evaluations include review of records and documentation as well as performing physical plant inspections in various indoor and outdoor environments. Reports of findings and conclusions are required at the completion of each inspection. This position will also conduct enforcement meetings and issue enforcement actions, conduct sampling of permitted facilities, report spill incidents, and complete technical plan reviews and compliance inspections on permits located throughout Nevada. This position will also conduct reviews on Civil Improvement Plans and Tentative and Final subdivision maps. Additional duties include: Issuance of violation notices, spill investigations, conducting meetings with major dischargers, subdivision plans, meeting with permittees and/or consultants. The position is approximately 80% office work and 20% field work. Field work will include day travel to facilities in Northern Nevada and occasional overnight travel to facilities in Rural and Southern Nevada. Overnight (typically Tuesday - Thursday) travel is approximately 10%. To see full Class Specifications visit: To Qualify In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements: Qualifications Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
