Location:Lisle, IL(High-Needs School) This position is responsible for providing comprehensive speech therapy and language development services for students with autism spectrum disorders and functions as a member of the educational and therapeutic team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Complete assessment of students as related to speech, language, and communicationProvide treatment, including program planning, on-going evaluation, consultation and education to the family and studentLiaison with team members, parents, district professionals, and others involved in the education/treatment of the studentComply with professional code of ethics and school policiesMaintain professional documentation including session notes and quarterly reportsMaintain IEP goals, reports and three year re-evaluationsMaintain student files including appropriate documentation and student attendance to sessionsParticipate in team meetings and professional development sessionsConsult and collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and in inclusion settingsFacilitate professional development sessions for all staffWork with Program Assistants to model strategies, discuss student progress, and assess student needsFacilitate the student's use of Augmentative Communication devices as determined appropriate by providing evaluation of student's needs, trial of devices/systems, treatment, programming of devices, and training of staffSupervise clinical students from university programs as neededAdhere to company policies and proceduresComplete any other essential duties that may be assigned

Knowledge and Skills

Ability to effectively interpret and communicate assessment results, evaluations, and proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by team members, the district, and parentsKnowledge of autism spectrum disordersAbility to treat students with autism spectrum disordersFamiliarity with relevant diagnostic tools and proceduresAbility to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standardsKnowledge of the use and maintenance of facilities and equipmentKnowledge of sensory and behavioral strategiesKnowledge of child development theoryKnowledge of related accreditation and certification requirementsAbility to use computers (word processing software, therapeutic/educational software)Strong written and communication skillsStrong organizational skills

Minimum Job Requirements

Master's degree in Speech Pathology; appropriate certification in speech therapy; state licensure required

ClassificationThe Speech Language Pathologist is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

SalarySalary is commensurate with level of education and experience.

CalendarThe Speech Language Pathologist follows the Day School Staff Calendar.

Pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background checkPossesses appropriate professional credentialsPassing PCM training is a requirement of this position. Participation in PCM training and adherence to the Professional Crisis Management Association's guidelines require at least average physical fitness. Any physical limitations or conditions that may impact one's ability to participate in PCM training or PCM must be made known to Giant Steps upon application, as performance of various physical tasks is a bona fide occupational requirement of this position.

Work is typically performed indoors within the school facilityModerate physical movement is required for the jobModerate exposure to physical risk is anticipatedThe noise level in this work environment varies from quiet to very loud.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to stand, walk, sit, run, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, balance, crouch, talk, hear, smell, and see. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds.

Annual Performance Review

An annual performance review will be conducted each spring by his/her supervisor.The Speech Language Pathologist will complete a self-assessment of his/her performance and submit the self-assessment to his/her supervisor two weeks prior to his/her annual review each spring.
