Job summary
The special education teacher is responsible for planning and implementing goals of the students Individual Education Program (IEP).

Responsibilities
• Follows legal requirements as dictated by state and federal statutes.• Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.• Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.• Evaluates and monitors student progress.• Maintains physical environment of the classroom.• Prepares report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other forms.• Maintains communication system with parents/care givers of classroom students.• Plans individual educational programs designed to meet student's needs and conform to state and federal laws.• Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of specific objectives to meet the needs of each individual student.• Maintains regular attendance.
Requirements
• An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.• Valid teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement.• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public.• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.• Ability to use available information and develop long-term and short-term goals and objectives.
