Join us.Team IntroductionThe Applied Research Center at ByteDance is a team dedicated to cutting-edge infrastructure system innovations, including but not limited to compute, storage, database, and networking. We are looking for experienced engineers and researchers in both the infra for AI and AI for infra areas, to help us build hyper scale cloud infrastructure and foundational platforms to drive next-gen ML systems and applications.Infra for AIAs a software researcher/engineer in this team, you'll work on the fundamental infrastructure components that all other teams at ByteDance build upon, such as our compute platform, storage, database, and networking stack. As new AI/ML workloads are emerging around the world, designing and building next-gen cloud computing and machine learning infrastructure to enable cost-efficient and easy-to-use ML solutions based on Valcano Engine, ByteDance's public cloud offering, is our team's primary focus. You will work closely with other teams and business units to seamlessly integrate new ML platforms into the current cloud infrastructure and build the foundation for Valcano Engine's technical and business growth.Responsibilities:- Design, architect and implement next-gen cloud computing and ML infrastructure to enable cost-efficient, easy-to-use and secure ML platforms that reduce time-to-market (TTM) for ByteDance customers.- Collaborate with other teams and business units to seamlessly integrate new ML platforms into the current cloud infrastructure.- Write high quality, product level code that is easy to maintain and test.- Optimize existing cloud systems/services to improve performance and efficiency.- Keep up with the latest state-of-the-art in the open source and the research community in AI/ML, LLM and systems, and implementing and extending best practices.- Write papers and patent applications.AI for InfraByteBrain is a platform that provides AI services for infrastructure. The goal is to automatically optimize system performance and reduce labor and resource costs. ByteBrain integrates machine learning and AI techniques to serve all infrastructure systems in Bytedance as well as public cloud. Responsibilities and Duties:- R&D in LLM related fields, including AI agent, fine tuning, prompt engineering/learning, tooling, domain knowledge construction, LLMOps and acceleration, etc. - Design and implement LLM-AI agent architecture and modules that support the above directions. - Explore and implement the state-of-the-art methods in the field of LLM. - Collaborate with current and potential teams and BUs to explore more business and research directions and impact. - Write papers and patent applications.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: - B.S./M.S, degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related area with 3+ years of relevant industry experience; new graduates with Ph.D. degree and strong publication records can be an exception. - Solid understanding of at least one of the following fields: operating systems, distributed systems, high-performance storage systems (e.g., HDFS), database (experience with vector DB is a bonus), and high-performance networking (experience with RDMA, DPDK, or protocol design is a bonus).- Proven experience designing, architecting and building cloud and ML infrastructure related but not limited to resource management, allocation, job scheduling and monitoring.- Familiarity with container and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.- Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Python, Go, C++, and Java. Preferred Qualifications- Experience working on GPUs/CUDA and/or LLM engines (e.g., vLLM, TensorRT-LLM).- Experience with a public cloud provider (AWS, Azure and GCP), and their ML services (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, GCP Vertex AI).- Proficiency in ML systems (e.g., Ray, DeepSpeed), and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).- Great communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams.- Passionate about system efficiency, quality, performance and scalability.ByteDance is committed to creating an inclusive space where employees are valued for their skills, experiences, and unique perspectives. ?For Pay Transparency?Compensation Description (annually)The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $184300 - $337250 annually.?
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.?
