Job Summary The Senior Accountant is responsible and accountable for supporting the Controller and VP – Accounting & Commissions in various capacities including: month end close, audit support, budgeting, establishment and maintenance of department processes. Additional responsibilities include data analysis, understanding of the BRACS commission system, and general industry knowledge to ensure proper procedures are being followed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Assist the Controller with month-end close duties. Ensure all appropriate Journal Entries are posted, review entries as appropriate, and review for accuracy and completeness. Assist with annual audit on balance sheet reconciliations, roll forward schedules, revenue testing, and financial statement drafting. Assist the Controller with operating expense budget. Assist VP – Accounting & Commissions on revenue budget. Assist CFO on staffing budget. Meet with Department heads regarding expense changes expected in each coming year. Compile reporting relating to internal financial statements for management and other internal users. Strong understanding of company cost accounting policies and practices and ability to explain these policies to business line stakeholders. Update department policies and procedures as necessary. Assist with drafting new policies and procedures when new processes are established. Work with Controller and VP – Accounting & Commissions on ensuring department procedures are followed throughout the year. Complete established goals throughout the year to be discussed and agreed upon in advance of each year. These goals will vary in nature but typically are related to process improvement. Future opportunities for staff management. This includes ongoing touch bases, goal setting and quarterly planning, annual reviews, and career path discussions. A working knowledge and understanding of the Commissions system (BRACS) to troubleshoot issues that might arise. This includes analytical work around commission revenue and expense, transaction review as needed to ensure correct processing, and running various reports in the system for review. Understanding of the financial services industry and the various unique business lines including Broker-Dealer, Registered Investment Advisor, and Insurance Agency businesses. Various other duties as assigned. Core Competencies Strong organization skills and attention to detail Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, performing a variety of time-sensitive tasks Ability to identify and solve problems in a timely manner with little oversight Strong Interpersonal skills to interact with the immediate team, various outside parties, and internal stakeholders. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Five to Seven Years of Accounting Experience Preferred Education and Experience Financial Services Industry Experience Physical Demands This is a largely sedentary role.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work Days and typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility in working hours is allowed, but the employee must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
