POSITION SUMMARY: The Research Grant Administrator implements all elements of the AAN Research Program annual cycle. This includes the application and selection process for the upcoming year as well as support of active grants. This role strives for continuous improvement in advancing the research program's effective research grantmaking with a thorough understanding of processes, systems, evaluation, and technology. The position also assists with program implementation that supports researchers at all levels of their careers. Primarily, the position implements grantmaking to early career researchers in basic, translational, and clinical research. Customer service and upholding AAN's vision is imperative.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Research Program Grant Administration – External
• With oversight from supervisor, the Research Program Subcommittee and input from the AAN legal and finance department, consults with researchers and academic institutions regarding specific grant proposals to ensure that the proposal meets guidelines and/or initiative requirements 
• Administers the Requests for Applications (RFAs) process in collaboration with funding partners 
• Manages the lifecycle of grant recipient and funding partner agreements 
• Administers the grant management software for each yearly cycle depending on needs or changes 
• Responsible for contract closeout actions in a timely manner including facilitating no cost extensions, return of funds 
• Ensures quality and timeliness of all aspects of the grants process and management.
• Drives ongoing communication and contract negotiation with pre and post award personnel at academic institutions receiving AAN funding
• Oversees the review process through recruiting and overseeing volunteer reviewers which represent a wide variety of neurological disease states and disorders. This process will ensure a peer reviewed ranking and evaluation process relative to criteria 
• Produces concise, timely data reports for the Science Committee, Research Program Subcommittee and the American Brain Foundation as needed.
• Evaluates the research program process from the perspective of applicants, reviewers, and funding partners. Responds with solutions to provide a high level of satisfaction on behalf of those that interact with the research program.

Research Program Grant Administration – Internal
• Collects, monitors, and analyzes data to demonstrate ROI measures of the Research Program 
• Develops and works within the annual Research Program budget 
• Works closely with finance team in managing needs at all levels of individual grant cycles
• Administers the grant management system and other systems which support the Research Program. This includes addressing system needs, training, and vendor communication
• Maintains Research Program website content 
• Provides data and input to marketing department
• Works closely with American Brain Foundation at multiple levels of the research cycle including partner funded RFAs, partner reviewers, grant contracts, interim reports, and final reports

Staff Liaison
• Staff liaison for the Research Program Subcommittee collaborating on agenda development, project oversight, conference calls, meeting logistics and communications

Administration 
Support the needs of the Clinical Research Subcommittee and the Research Program Subcommittee as they arise
• Assists with program implementation that supports research throughout the year including the AAN Annual Meeting. Specific to the Research Program, lead planning process and implementation of the Research Breakfast and Research Alumni Event at the AAN Annual Meeting.
• Supports the Futures in Neurologic Research Scholarship, Resident Research Scholarship, and Medical Student Research Scholarship in the grant management system as needed
• Assists with Education Research Grant process as needed

QUALIFICATIONS: Education:
• Associate of Arts/Vocational/Technical Degree in business, administration, communication, or related area of study is required

Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an educational, business, or professional setting, including project management, planning and implementing programs. 

Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for qualification requirements.

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION: FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel required – approximately 5%. Ability to legally travel outside of the United States, particularly but not limited to Canada.
Location: Minneapolis, MN and is identified as hybrid (required to work in the office with the ability to work remotely part of the week)
Schedule: Occasional evenings and weekends required
Physical Requirements: Standard office setting, with ability to sit for long periods of time, occasional use of stairs; regular use of computer and office equipment, lifting up to 10 lbs. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
