SUMMARY 
Assists Ranch Manager and Staff Veterinarian in the care and treatment of range cattle and/or cow-calf operations by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Rides on horseback in order to identify sick, injured, or stressed animals; gathers cattle on range and pasture; calves cows; supplements feed during winter; repairs pasture and range fences. Assists in treating sick or injured cattle by following an established medical treatment plan provided by the Staff Veterinarian and/or Ranch Manager/Foreman. Assists with processing and shipping cattle by sorting, branding, vaccinating, worming, and tagging. Moves cattle from pasture to pasture as directed by the Ranch Manager/Foreman. Provides care to horses by shoeing, doctoring, feeding, and grooming as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned by the Ranch Manager/Foreman. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  
Knowledgeable in the areas of animal health and cattle conditions generally acquired with a minimum of four to five years related experience and/or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS 
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY 
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 
Must be a licensed driver of single axle vehicles.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
Ability to saddle and ride a horse. Must provide own tack.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
