Requirements
Education/Certification: An applicant for an educational aide III certificate shall: (1) hold a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school diploma, or higher; (2) have satisfied one of the following requirements: (A) have three creditable years of experience, as defined in Chapter 153, Subchapter CC, of this title (relating to Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service), as either an educational aide I or II; or (B) have completed 30 semester credit hours of college credit with some emphasis on child growth and development or related subject areas; and (3) have experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent. Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate (Note: The COCISD Human Resources Dept. can work with you to obtain the Paraprofessional and Educational Aide certificates) Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics Ability to work well with children Ability to communicate effectively Experience: Some experience working with children
Job Description
The COMPASS program is COCISD's Optional Flexible School Day Program. The Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) allows districts to provide flexible hours and days of attendance for students who meet at least one of the requirements of the Texas Education Code §29.0822(a). The goal of the program is to improve graduation rates for students who are in danger of dropping out of school, have dropped out, or are behind in core subject courses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) Coordinating with the Program Director to set up individual plans of instruction and schedules for students 2) Assisting the Program Director with light administrative tasks, such as attendance and progress reports 3) Communicating professionally with students to ensure they understand the lessons and how to successfully complete them. 4) Assisting students with organization and planning to complete their core courses so they can graduate High School. Training on the program and curriculum software will be held as onboarding is scheduled. This job requires self-motivation, a positive attitude, and problem solving skills. This position will be a major influence in the culture and climate of this program and must be someone with a very positive, encouraging demeanor.
