Description For over 30 years, the Southern Region Early Childhood Programs have provided high quality early childhood programming to children and families. Continuing their mission to work as a comprehensive team with families, school districts and communities, the Prevention Initiative Program is seeking talented individuals for the position of Family Educator.
Examples of Duties The role of the Prevention Initiative Family Educator is to support and engage parents and caregivers through personal visits, group connections, child screenings, and resource networking. The Parent Educator screens and enrolls expecting mothers and families with children through three years of age; creates and implements fun and engaging learning opportunities for the children and families; plans and implements developmentally appropriate activities for birth to three year old children; maintains a system of performance assessment through ongoing observations and documentation collection information to reflect the development of each child; encourages and supports parent participation and interactions with their child; participates in Child Find screenings to determine enrollment eligibility of children; provides transition and support experiences for children; and collaborates with program and SIU personnel. The Family Educator will be trained in the Parents as Teachers Curriculum.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child and Family Services, Elementary Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field of study is required by date of hire.
Experience working with the infant and toddler population.
Employ physical skills for programming supporting infant/toddler children including, but not limited to lifting and holding a child, running, reaching, squatting, dancing, and sitting in the environment at the child's eye level.
Access to reliable transportation to perform job duties.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred.
Active Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Early childhood Education;
Special Education Endorsement;
Bilingual Education Endorsement;
Spanish language proficiency to speak and write;
Early Childhood data collection methods; membership, committee work, or presentations to professional educational organizations at the local, state, and national levels;
NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practices knowledge, DCFS licensing experience working in a position using the regulations;
and/or supervising early childhood interns and practicum students are preferred.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience working with diverse populations of families with young children that are at-risk of academic failure.
