Responsibilities
• Maintaining a presence in the community to deter crime and support citizens• Building strong relationships with community members through Community Oriented Policing• Providing police presence at public events• Identifying potential criminal activity and taking proper actions to protect citizens and property• Securing crime scenes and processing evidence• Responding to calls for service and making arrests when necessary• Conducting investigations and documenting observations and actions• Participating in campus internal processes• Testifying in court regarding criminal investigations and citations• Enforcing laws and ordinances and maintaining safe traffic conditions
Requirements
• Minimum of two years of full-time experience in a governmental police force or law enforcement work• Associate's degree or higher in police science, law enforcement, or criminal justice can substitute for experience• Eligible for certification as a law enforcement officer by the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POSTC)• High school diploma or equivalent• Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years old• Graduation from an approved police academy or equivalent training• Possession of current CPR and First Responder certifications• Ability to pass extensive background investigation and CORI check• Must possess a valid unrestricted license to carry a firearm• Must have a Massachusetts class 'D' or greater motor vehicle operator's license• Must pass municipal police training firearms course• Must pass psychological exam, drug test, and pre-employment medical exam• Must pass CORI/SORI and/or National background check• Preferred qualifications include eligibility for appointment as a Special State Police Officer, associate or bachelor's degree, bilingualism, and experience working with a diverse population
