Job Description

Under direction and with aid of applicable public safety standards including the NFPA, under the general supervision of a physician, the class provides primary health care to patients within an area of specialty; and performs related duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESInterviews patients and conducts basic physical examinations to identify health problems;assesses data and determines health status of patients subject to a physician's review;orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests and procedures;diagnoses and treats common illnesses and injuries;develops and implements treatment plans;monitors patient's progress;prescribes and administers medications and drugs;refers patients for specialized attention where needed;confers with medical providers on cases with acute and chronic conditions;counsels and educates individuals on the prevention of illnesses and the promotion, restoration, and maintenance of health.RELATED DUTIES

Participates in staff development programs for professional nursing staff;develops course content for patient education in area of specialty;keeps abreast of current developments in patient care management, health care legislation, and community resources;Additional duties may be required for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Nursing with certification as a Nurse Practitioner in a specialized area is required.Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse.Applicants must possess a valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse license at the time of employment.Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

Previous work experience in occupational medicinePrevious case management work experiencePrevious work experience as a Nurse PractitionerProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
