Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) sponsored Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs) are statewide quality improvement programs whose goals are to improve quality, safety, and clinical outcomes for specific healthcare procedures or medical conditions across the state of Michigan (). Each CQI is organized and facilitated by a Coordinating Center, led by Program Directors and Co-directors (physicians and nurses), and Program Managers. A CQI?s staffing typically includes administrative staff, project managers, and data analysts, among other roles.
The Michigan Collaborative for Type 2 Diabetes is seeking a detail-oriented self-starter to join the team in the role of Data Analyst. MCT2D is a statewide CQI working with more than 300 physician practices across Michigan. The project works to improve the quality of Type 2 Diabetes care across the state, through dissemination and implementation of strategies designed to reverse the metabolic dysfunction that typically progresses from pre-diabetes to uncomplicated type 2 diabetes to type 2 diabetes with complications. Strategies include helping practices to engage patients in lower carbohydrate diets, implement continuous glucose monitoring technology, and prescribe newer medications to treat high blood sugar and prevent complications of type 2 diabetes.
As the MCT2D Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in the following areas:
Management of large datasets Proper analytic design in order to accurately and fairly measure practice and physician organization performance Preparation of reports and the presentation of results to program participants , program sponsors, and other CQI programs Data analysis for conference posters and journal publications Making recommendations to program leadership on how data should be visualized to both demonstrate desired results, and to maintain scientific validity. Creation of scripts to automate analytics The MCT2D data analyst will work with multiple different data types including clinical data, claims data, survey data, and data from remote patient monitoring devices, such as continuous glucose monitors. The data analyst will analyze and display data from various databases and other sources; clean and construct datasets; develop and/or maintain databases; perform statistical programming; and provide technical assistance to the team.

This position involves a wide range of tasks including data management, programming, and analysis supporting quality improvement. Specifically, the position involves providing independent and collaborative statistical support.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
40% Data Analysis Extract, transform, and merge raw data from various data sources into usable forms and construct datasets Perform statistical programming utilizing SAS and a variety of other statistical software packages to summarize data in order to create reports and/or visual presentations Present analytic methods and recommended approaches to program leadership to ensure a high quality product 40% Data Visualization and Reporting Design and prepare standard and ad hoc reports to inform the develop of performance metrics and report on participant progress C reate and implement programs and templates to collect, display and analyze data for assigned projects and/or clients P repare summaries for statistical analysis and planning purposes Work closely with the CQI Population Health Registry to develop new reports and validate and troubleshoot analytic discrepancies. Work closely with the MCT2D team to summarize, interpret, and present results in written, tabular, and visual formats 15% Document and Innovate Document procedures for future reference and make recommendations for data analysis process improvements Respond to questions, data needs, and ad-hoc requests from collaborative participants Create efficiencies through improved processes for data management, use, sharing, and linking Create, prepare and maintain technical documentation of data and analysis files. 5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Statistics , Biostatistics or related field At least 3 years of experience in analyzing and interpreting process, clinical outcomes and costs of care Previous experience with data abstraction Experience with SQL, SAS, R or Python,  and other programming languages Strong, demonstrable programming skills and experience with relational databases, complex data structure, and linkages between data sources Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for the development of presentation materials Proven ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results Excellent communication, both oral and written in English language, and interpersonal skills are essential Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time Working knowledge of epidemiologic concepts and methodology Experience with Data Visualisations and reporting software such as Matplotlib, Tableau, Power BI, etc Working knowledge of epidemiologic concepts and methodology Experience with Data Visualisations and reporting software such as Matplotlib, Tableau, Power BI, etc ? Working knowledge of epidemiologic concepts and methodology Working knowledge of epidemiologic concepts and methodology Experience with Data Visualizations and reporting software such as Matplotlib Tableau, Power BI, etc  Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or related field SAS certification preferred Experience creating reports in Tableau Experience with additional statistical software and programming languages and/or the ability and willingness to learn as necessary Experience in directing, managing and analyzing research projects using large administrative and medical databases Experience working with biomedical laboratory testing results Experience working with insurance claims data Experience with statistical libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, dplyr, ggplot2, tidyr, etc Experience working with platforms such as Jupyter notebooks Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
