As we continue to expand our product portfolio, we are seeking a talented Materials Engineer to join our team and play a key role in the design, development, and testing of materials used in our medical device products and hydrogels.
Job Description:
As a Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, processing, and testing of materials used to create medical device products and hydrogels. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal material choices that meet design objectives, quality standards, and cost considerations. Additionally, you will manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, assess supply needs, and coordinate delivery schedules to support our manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Review plans for new products and make recommendations for the selection of materials based on design objectives, such as processability, strength, weight, cost, and storage space at the facilities.
Ensure optimal material choices for design objectives to include quality, cost, and appearance of the product.
Procure materials that optimize volume discounts while aligning with available storage capacity, shelf life, and the overall financial impact to the organization.
Prepare budgets and proposals, write reports, analyze labor costs, and ensure all projects remain within budget.
Conduct and design tests on raw materials and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
Analyze product issues and failure data to better understand the causes of problems and develop innovative solutions.
Collaborate with Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics, and Financial departments to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
Support R&D and Engineering with process and test development, prototyping, design verification, SPC process optimization and validation (IQ, OQ, PQ), and failure modes effect analysis (FMEA).
Improve processes and products through continuous evaluation and optimization.
Utilize the company's ERP system to manage material procurement and inventory.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field; Master's degree is a plus.
X years of experience in materials engineering, preferably in the medical device industry.
Strong understanding of materials properties, processing techniques, and testing methodologies.
Experience in managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and assessing supply needs.
Proficiency in data analysis tools and ERP systems.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
