MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATE, URJ CAMP KALSMAN  Location :         Onsite: URJ Camp Kalsman (******** th Street NE, Arlington, WA 98223)

THE ROLE  The Union for Reform Judaisms (URJ) Camp Kalsman seeks a hands-on, full-time, year-round, on-site Maintenance Associate to maintain the cleanliness of campgrounds and buildings in support of the URJs mission to create communities of belonging that build confidence and character of young people, so they are inspired as leaders to make the world a better place and pursue lifelong engagement in Jewish life.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to maintenance and repair of the camps building, grounds, equipment, and other facilities as aligned with the mission and established policies and procedures of the camp. Onsite housing is available starting Fall 2023.  
WHAT YOU WILL DO  TheMaintenance AssociatereportstoFacilities Managerandisresponsible for the following:  
MAINTAIN GROUNDS & FACILITIES    Performs all duties following prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state, and federal guidelines, as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards.  
Assists with preventative maintenance and repair of the camps buildings, grounds, equipment, and other facilities consistent with the mission and established policies and procedures of the camp.Be aware and make necessary changes to hazards found on campgrounds. 
Follow the schedule for checking physical plant and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs (not requiring permits) to physical plant and equipment, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical carpentry, masonry, heating, painting, plastering, electronics, kitchens, toilets, and air conditioning equipment. 
Maintain a safe and clean workshop environment and compliance with camp policies in the handling of all tools and vehicles.Inspect and report damage or malfunctioning of components of the physical plant and make necessary adjustments or repairs. In collaboration with the supervisor, coordinate major repairs with outside contractors. 
Maintain grounds and landscaping, including mowing, plant pruning, weed-whacking, leaf removal, and debris removal, to ensure a desirable appearance.Shovel snow.Operate necessary ground-care equipment such as mower, tractor, chainsaws, etc., safely and efficiently. 
Ensure all tools and supplies are cleaned up and put back into the maintenance shop after use.Monitor inventory of building supplies, tools, and equipment and report to Facilities Manager. 
In partnership with the Facilities Manager, prioritize work to ensurecleanliness of campgrounds and buildings. Complete projects as assigned by the Facility Manager and/or Camp Director.  
Provide programmatic support to the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director, as needed. 
Store equipment for safety. 
HOUSEKEEPING  Perform general janitorial, housekeeping, and maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor. 
Sweep, scrub, and wax floors; wash windows and screens; put up and take down screens and storm windows, and repair same. 
Repair toilets, lights, doors, windows, and maintain vehicles. 
Dispose of trash and waste. Manage recycling and disposal needs. 
YEAR-ROUND RETREAT & EMERGENCY SUPPORT  Respond to emergencies quickly, coordinating with appropriate staff. Provide immediate response for physical plant emergencies. 
Prepare camp for group use during the summer and year-round events. Set up camp according to group setup sheets. 
Secure camp after a group leaves. Turn off/cut off power to camper cabins and buildings. Lockdown facility. 
Set up and break down rooms for meetings and conferences, assuring all supplies and equipment are provided. 
Periodically check in with the year-round event manager during group rental visits. Respond to group needs regarding physical set-up and repairs. 
Assist in end-of-season inventory. 
GENERAL CAMP SUPPORT  Work safely and know when and how to ask for help.Adhere to policies and operating procedures set forth by the Camp leadership. 
Act as an ambassador for the Camp.Develop mutually respectful relationships with the camp leadership, coworkers, vendors, the local community, and the camp community. 
Maintain a consistent presence as a leader within the camp community with respect to role modeling Jewish values, supervision, and accountability for all rules and procedures, and dedication in all respects to the camps mission and vision.Continually prioritize and stay up to date on institutional and racial equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI) principles, behaviors, and practices. 
WHO YOU ARE & KEYS TO SUCCESS (THE MUST-HAVES):  To be successful in this job, you excel in the following areas:  Maintenance.Experienced in general maintenance duties general carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrical work, understanding of HVAC systems, groundskeeping, and other general maintenance duties.Proficiencyin the safe and proper use of powerequipmentand tools, heavy and light machinery, and building materials.Previous camp maintenance, facility/property management, or physical plant experience is desired. 
Safety.Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures.Ability, both visual and auditory, toidentify safety hazards, monitor guest and staff behavior, and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.Ability tosafely and properly use power tools and equipment.Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury). 
Licenses.Valid Drivers License. 
Communication& Collaboration.Ability to work on a team, relate, and work well with others.Ability to accept guidance, direction,and supervision.Able to ask for help when needed. 
Proactive &Organized.Self-starter.Able to manage multiple tasksor projects. 
REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion).Commitment toprioritizing and executing Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQ+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities. 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS  Physical Demands: Lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs. Stamina and willingness to work long hours, in inclement weather and for stretches of days.  
Ability to work irregular hours including weekends.   
Ability to pass a criminal background check.  
Willingness to take an Anti-Harassment training course paid for by the URJ.
