Kids Cafe Cook Location Oklahoma City, OK : We are hiring for a Kids Cafe Cook for The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club. This position is a Part Time, Hourly position located in Oklahoma City, OK. Job Summary Under supervision of the Club Director, the Kid's Café Program Cook will order, purchase, prepare and serve meals in compliance with the USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program. The cook will also be responsible for accurately completing daily attendance rosters, meal count sheets and Menu as Served forms and returning them to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma's Kids Café Program Coordinator in a timely manner; maintains a clean kitchen facility, equipment, and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner. Essential Functions This should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this . Meal Preparation and Planning (90%) Plans menus, purchases food for meals and snacks reimbursable through the USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and maintains supplies necessary for the preparation and serving of nutritional meals. Orders food from the Food Bank's inventory through Agency Zone in a timely manner and in adequate quantities to serve all Club members in attendance; coordinates with the Kitchen Supervisor at Area Command to order produce and other perishable items not available through the Food Bank's inventory; uses fresh or frozen produce when possible. Prepares meals and snacks following the menus and recipes provided by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma's Registered Dietitian. Reports all menu modifications to the Kids Café Program Coordinator through the Club Director. Complies with USDA requirements for a reimbursable meal and provides age-appropriate serving sizes of nutritious foods to The Club members at all times. Stores, refrigerates and freezes foods in a safe and economical manner; monitors expiration dates on all foods ensuring proper disposal of food with expired dates. Working with the Club Director, completes the following records and submits to the Kids Café Program Coordinator at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma on or before the 3rd day of each calendar month including daily attendance rosters or sign in sheets, number of at-risk afterschool snacks and/or meals prepared for each meal service, daily record of the number of at-risk afterschool snacks and/or meals served at each snack and/or meal service, daily records indicating the number of meals served to adults performing labor necessary to the food service, records of menus for each at-risk afterschool snack and/or meal service, and monthly DHS Reports including weekly high numbers and program compliance Cleans, cooks and prepares a variety of foods and beverages utilizing kitchen equipment, utensils and supplies in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods. Sets tables with plates, napkins and utensils or sets up buffet line for self-service. Cleans tables, chairs, floors, dishes, utensils and kitchen appliances. Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room; ensures that all meals are prepared in a safe manner; ensures proper personal hygiene; ensures compliance with health regulations and will wear a hair restraint. Maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen stock inventory in order to meet the needs of the kitchen; orders, receives and processes food purchases; verifies that invoices are accurate and submits for further processing. Other Responsibilities (10%) Assists in coordinating and carrying-out arrangements for programs and special events. Supervises volunteers assisting in preparing and serving meals and cleaning of kitchen equipment. Create and present a Nutritional Educational program to club members at least once a month or as requested. May be asked to assist with monitoring Club members and reporting back to the Boys & Girls Staff. Performs other related work as required. Materials and Equipment Stove Oven Refrigerators Freezers Kitchen Utensils Blender Mixer Food Processor Mop Broom Dish Washer Computer Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of proper cooking methods and procedures. Knowledge of meal planning techniques. Knowledge of acceptable food storage and cleaning techniques. Ability to cook nutritional, nice tasting and safe food for large groups in a timely manner. Ability to properly clean kitchen appliances and utensils. Ability to order food and kitchen supplies in an economical manner and to maintain an adequate level of inventory. Ability to navigate a computer for use of ordering food and communicating via email with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Ability to effectively communicate with Kids Café Program Coordinator, Boys and Girls Club staff, The Club members and parents. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to work and engage with kids in a positive and respectful manner. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Education and Experience High School diploma or G.E.D. AND one year experience cooking food for large groups, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Certifications/Licenses Required to attend the annual CACFP and Food Safety Training at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma Food Handlers Permit or ability to acquire one. Current Driver's License preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to meet attendance requirements of maximum of five hours per day/twenty-five hours per week on days that meals are provided. May not be required to work on days when only a snack is provided. Ability to perform continuous walking, standing, and stooping. Ability to carry equipment and supplies necessary to complete the essential functions of the position. Working Conditions Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
