Coherent's Electro-Optics Components Business Unit has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineering Intern. We are looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on teammate who will help to lead efforts to improve existing products and processes. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Work under the direction of a Lead Mfg Engineer to help bring online a new laser diode production cell. Hands on production station building and commissioning including wiring, cooling loop plumbing and software configuration Station qualification and repeatability studies Support technicians in the build and test of laser diode first articles Participating in Lean activities in the manufacturing area, for example: production floor layout, improving data collection, updating work instructions, and developing new and better manufacturing approaches and processes. Assist in the design and setup test fixtures for experiments. Assisting in maintaining test equipment, ensuring equipment is calibrated. Commitment to ISO procedures and policies. Conducting improvement experiments in order to improve reliability and quality of our products as well as first pass yield using a detail-oriented approach to experimentation and sharing those results with the rest of the team. Resolve production issues (Failure analysis, Root Cause Determination, and Implementing Corrective Actions). Education & Experience Associates Degree in technical field, or In-process for a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Skills High level of computer skill, and strong written and verbal skills. Detail orientated thinking with the ability to multitask. Flexible attitude with demonstrated ability to adapt to change and a dynamic work environment Demonstrate a wide degree of creativity. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate and coordinate with team members in order to complete tasks in a timely manner. Experience with Solidworks (or other 3D Modeling Software), or willingness to learn, is required. Attention to detail and very analytical. Basic knowledge of algebra and trigonometry. Experience with the operation lasers and power supplies. Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. Flexible attitude with demonstrated ability to adapt to change and a dynamic work environment. Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with all employee levels. Ability to clean optics and mechanical parts utilizing various chemical solvents. Ability to work with strong magnets. Working Conditions Work is performed in a cleanroom manufacturing setting Physical Requirements Ability to sit and/or stand for an 8-hour shift Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Safety Requirements
