Full job description Information & Referral/Independent Living and Employment Specialist for Rural Services-One Full Time Position-30-40 hours per week. - Shiawassee County office of Lansing based non-profit agency seeks one full-time Information & Referral/Independent Living/Employment Specialist. The I&R/IL/ES position is a full-time (30-40 hours per week depending on workload) non-exempt position with a starting wage of $18.00-20.00 per hour, depending on experience. This position includes a full benefits package. Access to reliable transportation is a requirement as the position requires travel within Ingham, Clinton, Eaton, and Shiawassee counties.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Manager of Rural Services, the Information & Referral/Independent Living and Employment Specialist for Rural Services has multitasked duties that all center around the independent living needs of people with disabilities.
· The Information & Referral (I&R) Services portion is a core component of a Center for Independent Living. Types of information requested range from locating community resources to crisis calls regarding areas such as evictions or discontinuation of benefits. I&R Services has the flexibility to work with not only individuals with disabilities but also family members, support persons, community agencies, and businesses.
o Another aspect of I&R includes outreach activities to learn about and communicate with community partners for the betterment of people with disabilities.
· Utilizing a person-centered planning approach, the IL/ES involves the core services of Information and Referral, Independent Living Skill Training, Peer Support, Transition, and Advocacy. The position is inclusive of individuals with diverse disabilities in the three counties of Shiawassee, Clinton, and Eaton.
· The primary location for this position will be in the Disability Network Capital Area Office in Owosso. However, travel to the main DNCAP office in Lansing as well as travel throughout Shiawassee, Eaton, and Clinton Counties will be required.
Duties: 1) Answer phone calls and walk-ins coming into DNCAP from people with disabilities to address their specific information request, refer them to a specific member of DNCAP for further assistance, or direct them to a partner agency that addresses their needs more fully.
2) Facilitate individual or group independent living skills training. Examples include travel training, money management, and employment readiness.
3) Work with the Manager in the development of a monthly class schedule of activities/groups.
4) Provide a range of Information & Referral services within an office setting, in a community or home setting, or virtually.
5) Services may be one-time or more intensive, including goal setting and monthly contact minimally.
6) Advocacy for accessibility on the job, at home, and in the community.
7) Referrals and follow-up to internal and community resources.
8) Timely completion of reports, billings, and data entry.
9) Outreach activities to community organizations.
10) Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Hiring Requirements: 1) A minimum of two years of college in Human Service or related field. Bachelor's Degree in Human Service or related field preferred.
2) A minimum of two years' human service experience.
3) Personal experience with a disability and/or knowledge of disability-related issues.
4) Must successfully pass a criminal background check, sex offender registry, and DHHS Central Registry.
5) Must have access to reliable transportation as the position requires travel.
Minimum Skill Requirements 1) Knowledge of county resources/agencies specific to people with disabilities is very helpful.
2) Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of practical problems.
3) Ability to effectively work as part of a team. Skills include building rapport through interactions based on mutual respect and trust. Facilitates problem-solving and conflict resolution.
4) Ability to adapt effective communication skills in a range of settings and individuals. Understanding of the impact specific disabilities may have on executive functioning and processing.
5) Maintains documentation; ability to use word processing and data entry. Meets agency requirements for timeliness.
6) Develop and maintain working relationships with community agencies and agency partners. Supports the positive image of the agency.
7) Ability to present information on disability related issues to community groups/classes.

4) Highly organized. Ability to multi-task but maintain a balance of focus and completion.
5) Strong analytic skills. Able to problem-solve. Facilitates discussions which promote identification and evaluation of options and effective implementation.
6) Able to work with minimal supervision by demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.
7) Meets deadlines and is respectful of timeframes of others.
Position Location : DNCAP Owosso Office, DNCAP Lansing Office, various community locations throughout Shiawassee, Clinton, and Eaton Counties, and occasional remote work.
Work Environment: This position will work primarily from the Owosso office and at various community sites. This position also involves work assignments utilizing Zoom and MS Teams while working in the office, community, or other remote site. This is not a work from home position.
