The Department of Student Voice & Engagement leads the district's inclusive and responsive education strategy that aims to ensure all aspects of schooling in CPS are inclusive of and responsive to the lived experiences of our students and includes them as key stakeholders in making decisions that impact them.
The primary objective of the Inclusive Partnerships Specialist will be to support the expansion of a strategy to scale democratic systems, structures, and youth/adult decision-making partnerships in CPS. This position will work directly with adult stakeholders, collaborating with team members from SVE and other CPS departments to drive the district's student voice infrastructure strategy, identify, and advance opportunities for strengthening and expanding inclusive practices and the role of student voice and leadership within decision-making and continuous improvement structures in schools and across CPS.
In order to ensure a coherent vision for a student voice infrastructure scaled throughout CPS, this role will be responsible for creating and facilitating professional learning for instructional leaders, principals and central office staff in nurturing inclusive youth/adult partnerships and utilizing them to foster an inclusive, democratic school culture and practices. The Inclusive Partnerships Specialist will report to the Civic Engagement and Leadership Manager and will collaborate closely with the Student Voice and Leadership Specialist as well as other colleagues within the department and across the central office. The Inclusive Partnerships Specialist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities: Identify and expand upon opportunities for incorporating student voice and leadership and inclusive partnerships into school continuous improvement strategy, systems and decision-making structures (ex: learning cycles, Continuous Improvement Work Plans, budgeting, and Local school Councils) Co-design and facilitate varied professional learning opportunities for students, teachers, and administrators that provide technical, curricular, and community-enrichment resources surrounding the implementation of inclusive partnerships. Ensure professional learning successfully builds stakeholder capacity to achieve the following: Expand upon the collaborative spirit and youth/adult partnerships built through school student voice committees in order to establish and implement intergenerational approaches to school improvement. Build a school culture of trust and belonging by promoting shared decision-making between adults and students Enrich existing systems and structures with a student voice and leadership component Capture professional learning data through the use of tools such as surveys, polls and artifacts Regularly review and improve upon inclusive partnership resources and professional learning to ensure teachers, Instructional Leadership Teams (ILTs), School administration, and Local School Councils (LSCs) have the support they need: Evaluate professional learning outcome data, and use that data to improve professional learning offerings Ensure the availability of thorough, up-to-date guidance and resources, including analyzing, auditing, and improving upon existing documents and/or creating new guidance and resource documents, as needed. Regularly conduct observations, interviews and advisory committee meetings in order to solicit and collect feedback around priority areas of student voice infrastructure strategy and learn about the evolving needs and challenges teachers, students, LSCs, and administrators face Identify, document, and offer solutions around barriers to the successful implementation of inclusive partnerships Develop tools, resources, and training that will support schools' community engagement, recovery, and strategic planning when faced with difficult, complex, or controversial issues Collaborate with the Student Voice and Leadership Specialist to plan and deliver student and educator-facing events that model inclusive partnerships, civic engagement, and elevate student perspectives on topics and issues relevant to CPS students Support SVE in advancing District-wide student voice and leadership initiatives that are responsive to the current social-political moment Represent Chicago Public Schools and the Department of Student Voice and Engagement through internal and external collaborative relationships, such as with the CPS Office of Network Support and Department of Distributed Leadership Other duties as assigned In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Inclusive Partnerships Specialist must possess the following qualifications: Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university is required Valid teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) or reciprocal out-of-state licensure, preferred Master's degree in a relevant field of study, preferred Experience Required: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in education, including the following, is required: Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with youth in leadership roles, and school or community improvement or civic engagement Minimum of three (3) years working with adults within school improvement systems and structures. Minimum of three (3) years working with adult learners including creating, organizing, and facilitating professional learning experiences to meet the needs of participants. Experience as a classroom teacher, school counselor, or school administrator, preferred Experience with learning cycles and/or continuous improvement processes in schools, preferred. Experience working with or within Chicago Public Schools, and/or working with schools and community groups on Chicago's south and west sides, preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and skill in working with others in a continuous improvement process; able to organize experiences that help others inform and shape a growth strategy. Knowledge of anti-bias, anti-racist, and anti-adultist pedagogy; commitment to providing an educational environment free of discrimination and bias that uplifts Black and Brown students, celebrating their impact on our communities and world. Skilled at supporting or facilitating group dialogue and deliberation on difficult or complex issues Ability to seek out dissenting perspectives and support the consideration of differing opinions in order to strengthen constructive solutions Capable of creating high-quality opportunities for teachers and students in youth voice, civic education, and democratic learning. Ability to act with integrity and collaborate to build bridges and consensus within socially, racially, and politically diverse groups Expertise in planning, designing, facilitating, and evaluating professional learning and other educational events Exceptional organizational skills; ability to effectively manage several work streams simultaneously; able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks as well as adapt to priorities that change quickly. Superior analytical and critical thinking skills; capable of analyzing data and using findings to inform daily decisions, define problems and determine appropriate action steps Capable of building and sustaining positive, productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; comfortable collaborating and communicating across a diverse range of audiences Solution-oriented - ability to address and solve challenges collaboratively with multiple interests/parties involved Excellent technology skills (Google Suite) Spanish language proficiency preferred Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois. Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
