Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic terms, up to 40 hours per week during term breaks) Student Technical Assistant position for the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position will assist with several research projects currently underway in the laboratory and greenhouse. Information about the research group can be found at All required training will be provided.

This position is anticipated to run through the end of 2024 with potential to be extended beyond that date.


Position Duties 100% Work under the supervision of a research associate conducting a variety of tasks necessary to the functions of the laboratory, greenhouse, and field research. For some positions, experience in plasmid cloning is essential (see preferred qualifications below)

Duties vary depending on project needs and may include plant tissue culture (propagation, subculture, and transformation using agrobacterium), basic molecular biology, using computer software, collecting data, entering data, preparing media, washing dishes, watering plants, pest management, and other duties as needed.

The majority of work will be performed in the laboratory, but incumbents must be willing to assist in the greenhouse and with outdoor field activities if needed.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
