About Kampar
Kampar is the second iteration of Saté Kampar, a very popular James Beard nominated Malaysian restaurant that closed during the pandemic. It will be the new home for Malaysian food as well as a host for chefs making underrepresented food. The husband and wife team, Ange and John Branca will be creating a destination for authentic Malaysian food and bringing a new restaurant experience to Philadelphia along with hosted chefs who make a diverse array of underrepresented flavors. This style of restaurant is not uncommon in Malaysia, typically called Kopitiam, it is a neighbourhood spot and a destination for some of the best food in the country. It will be the first of its kind restaurant concept in Philadelphia.
Summary/Objective The Executive Chef is responsible for all culinary activities for the restaurant, which includes delivery high quality Malaysian cuisine from chef Ange Branca's culture and managing a shared kitchen space for hosted chefs from a diverse culture. We are looking for a leader who wants to grow with the company and has a passion to support the diverse community in the food industry. The chef will be in charge of the entire culinary team, budgeting and managing cost and training. In the begining phases, the chef will be working to rebuild the restaurant business along side the owners at the new location.
Desired Requirements: A minimum of 2 years of culinary management experience in well-rated restaurants. The ability and desire to work with a diverse team and designing menus based on bringing diversity of flavors together. Prior experience and success in running expo in a busy kitchen. Experience with hiring, training and mentoring hourly BOH staff. Strong financial acumen with the proven ability to oversee cost control, labor management and bottom-line profitability. Ability to drive performance and results of a diverse culinary workforce. Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Leadership skills and prevents toxic or undesirable kitchen environment.
