The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Central Michigan University seeks a Lecturer for a fixed term position in Environmental Studies. This is a full-time, one-year appointment for the ******** academic year (August 2024 through May 2025), with benefits included. Duties include instructing courses through in-person and/or online delivery methods, grading assigned coursework, maintaining regular office hours, and participating in assessment. The appointment will commence at the start of the fall 2024 semester.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach four sections per semester. Depending upon the successful candidates interests, possible courses may include a combination of classes from the following subjects: Environmental Justice, Introduction to Environmental Studies, From Farm to Table: Food Systems in a Changing World, Sustainability and Environmental Policy, Introductory Urban Planning, Water Resources Management, or Adapting to Our Changing Climate. Course levels may range from introductory to advanced undergraduate classes. Applicants are encouraged to indicate in their cover letter which of these courses they are interested in teaching. The successful candidate will also participate in the departments annual assessment reporting. Required Qualifications:
Candidates must 1) possess a MS degree or equivalent in environmental studies, sustainability, geography, or a related field; 2) have excellent verbal and written communication skills; 3) demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching; and 4) be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in environmental studies, sustainability, geography, or a related field, and/or professional work experience in environmental fields, and/or those with prior experience teaching at the university level. Message to Applicants:
