Electrical Controls Designer

POSITION TITLE: Electrical Controls Designer (Non-Exempt) REPORTS TO: General Manager
POSITION PURPOSE:
This role is responsible for designing, revising, programming, and troubleshooting machine control systems for Forpakour customer directly with the design team and the shop, providing guidance and backup to field technicians, going on installations and service calls when required, and troubleshooting with customers via phone.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
• Design, revise, and troubleshoot electric schematics and pneumatic panel layouts using AutoCAD electrical, including machine control circuits, power distribution, safety, servo, and pneumatics.
• Apply knowledge of Allen-Bradley machine products, including PLCs, HMIs, safety relays and contactors, connectivity products, drives, and power distribution.
• Configure and program PLCs, HMIs, and other AB products using Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View Studio, Control Component Workbench (CCW), and other manufacturer's software as required.
• Create electrical bills of materials using Excel or AutoCAD Electrical.
• Provide directions to assemble electric and pneumatic panels, wiring machines, and pneumatic plumbing.
• Create labeling media using peripheral software and hardware.
• Assist in gathering the necessary information to contribute to machine designs.
• All other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION REQUIRED: Technical degree or equivalent work experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Advanced understanding of software, networks, Allen-Bradley products and software, proficient with AutoCAD Electrical, and a higher knowledge of Microsoft products - Outlook, Excel, Word, and Access, and have a general understanding of NFPA 79 and OSHA guidelines.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5+ years' relevant work experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Lift up to 30 pounds.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to understand and follow instructions in English.
TRAVEL: Able to travel 20% to off-site locations for service and installations.
COMMUNICATION: Able to answer questions during evenings and weekends with service techs and customers, as needed.
