Primary Purpose:

This position will set the legislative and government affairs strategy for Ahold Delhaize brands in the U.S. and facilitate regular communications with government official, trade groups and the Company's management team to advocate significant local, state, or federal initiatives. In addition, this position will serve as custodian/treasurer of the political action committee.

This position will be based out of our Salisbury, NC office (Charlotte Metro Area). Relocation assistance is available. This role requires 60-70% regional travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Legislative Strategy
Work with the Executive team and management to develop legislative, regulatory and government affairs strategy for the US business.
Lobbying
Develop and execute a lobbying strategy to share the Company's position with elected officials and regulatory agencies.
Budget Management
Provide oversight to the Government Affairs budget.
Compliance
Ensure compliance with all registrations, reports and documents regarding political contribution activity as required.
Monitors regulatory agency policy changes and the organizational effects of such changes to include research and communication of findings to internal and external sources.
Advocacy and coalition building
Maintain memberships with appropriate associations and participate with coalitions to advance Company legislative priorities.
Grasstops and grassroots activities
Develop and maintain processes for identifying, contacting and advising executives and management who may assist in lobbying or advocating in support of government affairs efforts.
Communication
Develop and execute varied and integrated communications products including internal website, print publications, newsletters, legislative marketing materials, online communications, and legislative letters.
Prepare high-quality briefing materials for political audiences and senior internal stakeholders to support the implementation of priorities.
Relationship building
Enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audience.
Recommend appropriate tactics for effective engagement to raise awareness and strengthen our brand's reputation with key policy makers and decisionmakers.
Legislative Monitoring
Track the progress of bills and other legislative activity at the federal, state and local levels.
Collaboration
Network and collaborate with other executives and management.
Additional job duties may be assigned as needed to meet the needs of the business and support our Values.
Qualifications:

7 years+ of relevant experience
Bachelor's Degree (Political Science, Public Affairs, Public Policy, Public Relations, Communications, History, or Journalism)
Demonstrated success leading people/teams
Prior lobbying or legislative work experience
Experienced at providing guidance and education to stakeholders regarding legislative processes
Ability to influence policymakers and the public
Experienced with using MultiState Solutions or similar legislative tracking tool
Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and presentation skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to travel regionally up to 60 - 70% (Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia)
Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree (Political Science, Public Affairs, Public Policy, Public Relations, Communications, History, or Journalism) preferred
Experience working to support, drive, and communicate outcomes and expectations in a multi-state business environment preferred
