Client is a family owned commercial real estate business. The person in this position is required to be onsite at the Company's corporate office located in Locust Valley, NY. The person in this position must be able move about inside and outside the office; to frequently communicate with owners and employees, ability to access and operate computer and other office equipment. The Controller is responsible for managing and executing the financial operations of the Company while leading a team of four to five individuals within the finance department. Job Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Deliver timely reports and analyses on financial position, statement of operations, cash flow, and other financial information as may be requested by the owners. Supervise Finance staff; assign duties, develop departmental work plans and processes, and assess performance. Oversee the monthly close of all properties owned by the Company and produce monthly and annual financial reports; prepare and input journal entries and reconcile bank and other accounts. Manage the Company's treasury function and execute intercompany money transfers timely to fund payables; oversee daily cash handling and ensure that good internal controls for cash handling are in place and are being followed. Oversee processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable and revenue recognition. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts. Manage the insurance renewals of all properties, including obtaining quotes from providers each renewal period. Oversee the mortgages of all properties and ensure the Company follows all mortgage requirements. Develop and monitor annual budgets and perform budget versus actuals analyses. Assist the outside tax accountants by providing all requested support. Ensure the Company is in good standing with all state and local tax compliance requirements (i.e. sales tax, commercial rent tax, payroll tax, etc.) Review payroll and monitor employee paid time off balances. Drive the implementation of new technology and system integrations. Perform other job-related duties as requested. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting. Minimum 8 years – 12 years' progressive experience in accounting and finance. Minimum 5 years' experience as a controller or within a similar leadership role. Real estate accounting experience required. CPA Certification preferred but not required. Strong working knowledge of GAAP and their application to real-estate institutions. Knowledge of financial and property management software a plus. Ability to detect errors and monitor own work to ensure quality. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
