The Business Analyst for Project Management is responsible for building, implementing, administering reporting and performance metrics for the project management department. Success in this role will allow all aspects of the project's schedules, construction performance, budget performance, and comparison to estimates to be utilized by the EPC organization. The proper individual possesses experience in gathering requirements, developing Power BI reporting, implementing, testing, deploying, and administering the integration of data sets from project schedules, accounting ledgers, standalone estimate, and productions trackers. The Business Analyst will be responsible for producing standard operating procedures and administering training to users across the EPC departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Understand the General Contracting construction market and collate information important to business operations within that market. Work closely with the EPC, Development, O&M, and Finance teams to understand the information needed in order to solve business problems. Create and maintain cohesive reports and dashboard visualizations that surface KPIs across multiple functional groups (Engineering, project management, construction, controls) and business objectives. Write high-quality SQL queries to retrieve and analyze data from database tables (ex. Redshift, MySQL, Oracle). Use script-writing skills to support ad hoc requests and to generate automated custom people metrics reports/tools. Develop on-demand and ad-hoc reports and dashboards using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Project Web App, and SQL Server and languages such as SQL and Python Document and implement procedures that ensure consistent, high-quality data collection and decision criteria. Create functional/technical specifications to document design approach. Develop tools to automate and streamline maintenance and administrative efforts. Deliver data-driven insights, produce actionable strategic direction, and help drive business prioritization that will support growth and maximize results. Coordinate with IT and operational departments to manage prioritization with system development. Work with operational departments to perform user testing and ensure satisfaction. Administrate PMO reporting functions and collaboration with financial controls systems. Support PMO Team in development of new tools and functionality for Schedule reporting and administration. Collaborate with Business Analyst within EPC Estimation to manage performance vs preconstruction estimate software (Excel based). Actively participate in the development of new solutions to drive EPC Commercial Team key objectives of communication, accuracy, control, accountability, and efficiency. Communicate technical and performance information clearly and cogently to key decision makers. Required Education and/or Work Experience: Bachelor's degree. 3 years experience developing and administrating project controls functions for construction. Experience with database management and data querying. Preferred experience with Python and/or other similar programming languages. Ability to learn quickly and proactively tackle both planned tasks and unexpected issues. Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people who possess a variety of skills, experience, and personalities. Clean Driving License. Mastery of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent time management, organization skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency building data visualizations in Power BI. Excellent capacity to generate insights and communicate to non-technical and technical audiences. Ability to tell stories with data using data visualization software Tableau, Excel, R, Python, or similar. Prior experience in manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high dimensionality data from various sources. Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment.
