The Position
Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Management Area 10 Game Division Biologist is responsible for surveying and monitoring various game species within Elko and White Pine Counties. Duties include survey and inventory of big game and small game species. Many of these surveys are conducted aerially using a helicopter; however, some surveys can be conducted via ground by foot or vehicle. Data management, data analyses including population modeling, report writing, and public presentations are essential to this position. A portion of this position?s time is also dedicated to the Elk Incentive Program as well as the Elk Damage Program and requires significant coordination with local landowners. In conjunction with applicable staff from the Habitat Division, this position is also partially responsible for developing and administering habitat improvement projects and conducting technical review of federal land use planning documents. The position will also deal extensively with land management agencies, sportsmen and the general public. The position is being recruited at Biologist 1, 2, and 3 levels. Position may be filled at any level. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field; OR graduation from high school and two years of technical wildlife management or fisheries experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in conducting research studies; data collection, analysis and interpretation; and development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects.

Special Notes

Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations.

Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.

Special Requirements

Statewide travel and outdoor work is required.

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. 4) This position requires travelling, camping, and backpacking in remote areas. At times this may be for more than 50% of the work schedule.
