Position Summary: This position will be responsible for providing instruction through at least the 12th grade level in reading, math, and language to prepare students to pass the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET). Teach Englis language skills to non-native speakers, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the curriculum and meet the needs of individual students. Assess student progress through regular quizzes, tests, and assignments.
This position is a Part-time, 10-month , hourly position. Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities: Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Access the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Participate in curriculum review and design. Maintain certification as a certified AEL Instructor as defined by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Work with adults with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Adapt instruction based on individual student needs. Create and manage a safe, friendly, and encouraging classroom environment. Communicate information on an individual and group level. Practice patience, empathy, and listening skills. Encourage adults to embrace computers and technology. Break down complex topics and present them in a straightforward, understandable way. ESL Teacher Duties: Create lesson plans and administer assignments to students. Maintain effective classroom management. Assist students with academic goals. Guide students on studying skills. Help students develop study habits. Provide feedback on students. Maintain attendance and punctuality. Education and Experience: Position requires at a minimum a bachelor's degree, certification from the State of Missouri to teach Adult Education to prepare students to pass the HiSET (within 4 months of hire) and passing a background check. Teaching experience is preferred.
