Location: Springfield, OH Category: Administrative Positions Posted On: Mon May 13 2024 Job Description: Wittenberg University is seeking an Academic & Career Education Coordinator for the Upward Bound program. The primary purpose of the Coordinator is to provide academic and career counseling to Upward Bound program participants.  This is a full-time, exempt-level position reporting to the Director of Upward Bound.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Provide project students with in-depth personal counseling (individual and group); academic advising. Place students in secondary institutions appropriate to their interests and needs, and with adequate financial aid. Gather career resource material on graduate, professional and vocational schools as well as information on job opportunities. Implement career interest workshops during the academic year. Counsel with individual students and parents in selection of institutions. Contact high school counselors, registrar, and/or other staff to obtain quarter grades, transcripts, and other related materials. Contact admissions and financial aid officers to give personal insights into individual student's aspirations, academic potential, family situations, motivation and any other information helpful to them in assessing the students' financial aid needs; including assisting student with course selection, and also the contacting of the faculty members involved. Similarly for the Bridge Program:  conduct personal counseling; counsel students in course selections; make arrangements through the Registrar's Office for course enrollment; report grades, and process transcripts. Coordinate the Bridge Seminar prior to the start of the summer program. Coordinate Bridge Student employment during the summer program with agencies involved; and completely coordinating the Bridge Program and all that it entails. Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc. Job Requirements: Requirements include:
A bachelor's degree. A master's degree in a closely related field is preferred. 1 - 3 years of experience required. Knowledge of the federal rules and regulations governing Upward Bound students preferred. Knowledge of adolescent development, college education, and financial aid opportunities preferred. Knowledge or experience of providing career exploration and computer literacy preferred. Demonstration of experience working with high school students who are from low-income and/or first-generation college families.  Demonstration of sensitivity to the type of student recruited to Upward Bound.  Demonstration of strong writing and reporting skills, presentation skills, and strong verbal communication required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary; strong public speaking skills with comfort in front of a large audience are required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (specifically, Publisher, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Working knowledge and experience using the Zoom virtual meeting platform.  Ability and willingness to teach students in the program as needed. Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends. Ability and willingness to drive as needed. A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date. Be able to remain in a stationary position for more than 50% of work day. Frequently move equipment weighing up to 20 pounds for various event and activity needs.
