Purpose of PositionAs a Software Engineer you will be part of a cross-functional service-oriented team, working on extending and maintaining our Affiliate Marketing platform. Your responsibilities include writing clean, secure, and well-tested code, following best-practice guidelines, and collaborating with the team to operate and enhance assigned parts of the platform. You will have a significant impact in terms of efficiency, problem-solving, and mentoring colleagues. Additionally, you will work closely with the product owner and team members to translate user needs into technical solutions. Throughout the lifecycle of a service or product, from requirements to deployment, support, and maintenance, you will take a leading role, considering deadlines, balancing effort and outcome, and proactively addressing risks. Your contribution will be vital in overcoming challenges and ensuring that our service continues to meet the needs of our business and customers.The TeamYou will be joining our Payments tribe, which plays a crucial role in the central value stream of our business. Our team creates an optimal experience with self-service payment activities for our Advertiser clients, and to increase our speed and flexibility on all our payment traffic. We design how our customers pay and partners get paid. Come be part of our journey as we embrace a cloud-first strategy on AWS, where you'll delve into an exciting array of technologies including Java/Spring, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL databases, Angular, Jenkins, Docker, and more.Key TasksWork inside a small team with a well described andrefinedproduct backlog and be comfortable with agile methodologies and practiceImprove existing applications, design and build solutions from scratchDevelop code and contribute to reviews, retrospectives, planning and development sessionsShape development technologies and practicesFollow best-practice guidelines and processes and help to improve thoseWork with Product Managers to convert user stories to features and tasksGrapple with business logic and help solve business needsTroubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely fashionCommunicate effectively in both verbal (day-to-day discussions, team meetings) and written forms (documentation, emails, communication tools) with local and remote team membersWhilst the above is a guide to general expectation of the role, we expect this position to evolve allowing you greater scope to gain both knowledge and experience within the online and affiliate marketplace.Skills & ExpertiseRequiredAt least 3 years of hands-on experience in commercial Software Engineering rolesProven track record with any OOP, ideally Java with Maven and Spring BootExperience in working with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and modern frontend frameworks (ideally Angular)Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure or GCP (We are working with AWS)Passion for writing elegant code and a desire to constantly refactor and improve, with a good understanding of SOLID principlesExpertise in designing and implementing RESTful APIs within a microservices architectureAbility to conduct a thorough code review process, write unit tests (ideally with JUnit) and maintain CI/CD pipelinesFamiliarity with version control systems, preferably GitExperience with streaming and queuing solutions (ideally Kafka, Kinesis or SQS)Proficiency in developing cloud applications with Docker and serverless technologies using Infrastructure as Code, such as TerraformUnderstanding of relational database concepts, database design principles, and proficiency in SQLFamiliarity with non-relational databases like DynamoDB, MongoDBSuccessful collaboration within a cross-functional engineering team alongside Product Owners, UX Designers and Agile CoachesExtensive exposure to agile processes, particularly ScrumKnowledge of TDD or BDD practicesExperience in monitoring applicationsOur OfferFlexi-Week and Work-Life Balance:We prioritise your mental health and wellbeing, offering you a flexible four-day Flexi-Week at full pay and with no reduction to your annual holiday allowance.
