Responsibilities
• Prepare and manage a caseload of misdemeanor cases, low-level felonies, and juvenile cases• Present cases for legal proceedings• Perform legal research• Prepare and file legal documents and correspondence• Review offenses, police reports, and evidence to decide on charges• Prepare and track subpoenas• Interview witnesses for legal proceedings• Stay informed on changes in relevant laws and proposed legislation• Communicate and collaborate with parties involved in cases• Make recommendations for custody, sentences, and restitution
Requirements
• Graduation from a college of law• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school• Admission by the Supreme Court of South Dakota to practice law in the state• Working knowledge of civil and criminal law• Ability to speak and write effectively in legal matters• Strong oral argument skills• Minimum of two years of relevant work experience for Senior Deputy State's Attorney
